Take your structural rigidty and throw it out the window (or your newly open roof that's been hacked out).
The only way to make it "safe" would be to do a full roll cage with bars going from the front kickpanel areas, up and over the tops of the side window areas, and back to a hoop behind the front seats. However, I don't know if only a small section of roof at the back would be able to support the rear hatch and glass while open.
Another issue would be side window frames on the doors. If you leave them, it would look pretty damn wierd when the top roof section was removed. But if you hack them up, then how do you seal the windows when the doors are closed and the roof section is in place?
But then again, how would you even make the roof section to be removable... use some del Sol roof latches maybe? Otherwise it would have to be a nice-weather car only (assuming you overcame the issues of structural rigidity and the rear hatch supports).

i saw somebody who photo-chopped this once onto an already-slammed car, i think either prelude or integra, but it was from the side, and they have a lot of similarities. it looked pretty cool (with the tops of the doors cut out, too). pretty much a chick magnet only, not really good for motorsports, but then again, motorsports is not what the vast majority of honda owners use their cars for, so somebody might find this their ultimate dream for their car. at least it would be interesting.

I don't think it would be much of a chick magnet with roll-cage bars passing across right there from the top corners of the windshield back to above the rear quarter windows. I don't think there would be any other way to overcome the loss of structural rigidity on a unibody chassis that was meant to have a roof (unlike the del Sol, which was designed to not have a roof). Not to mention the whole car would probably squeek and rattle like mad, girls probably wouldn't want to ride in it.

not only that, i was thinking about it in my head, woulndt you also need floor bars to connect them, you would have basically no roof support, that thing would shift like crazy

^^^LOL. I like the way the 'Lude looks though. One of my friends knows a guy that put a Targa roof in his Lude. I liked it. There was no cage or anything though so I don't know how it didn't flex constantly.
