Anything to watch out for putting a HF short block and tranny in a DX
I have a good running 1988 HF motor that is sitting in the floor. I have a dx motor that needs a short block. I would like to just put the dx head and manifold, and exhaust on the hf short block and put it back in the car. Are the head gaskets the same between these motors? I figure I will have to swap hubs around as I think the 88 hf had a differentspline number or diameter. Is there anything else I need to watch out for? New timing belt, new water pump will be going on it. I'll check out the valve on the dx head while it is off. I am not looking for any performance. Actually think I will prefer the HF gears for gas mileage savings. Thanks for any responses.
can anyone confirm that this won't work due to valve reliefs on the pistons being different.
You are correct. The hf is an 8 valve engine while the dx is 16 valves. The hf pistons only have valve reliefs for 8 valves while head has 16 valves.
well no, it would remain dpfi with the dx head but alas that won't work so i guess i'm gonna put some rings in it.
Is there a quick and dirty method of throwing rings into the car or should I do a thourough rebuild. Mind you this is just a cheapass slow daily gas saving car. No racing, I have a dedicated auto-x toy. Also what is a good cheap aftermarket supplied of rings/bearings. This stuff really adds up from the dealer. Easy to put 450 bucks or so in a fresh build of these motors. Any links to pages on honda ring installation is appreciated.
