Default My B16A2 build... comments needed!

This is my all-motor build - will be be having this dynoed shortly and am asking you to guess the power at the flywheel. I have the JDM B16A2 which on paper produces 168bhp as stock.

- Custom straight-thru exhaust (decatted)
- 4-2-1 DC header
- AEM CAI (or ITB!)
- Skunk2 Stage 1 cams (capped at 8200)
- SRR cam gears
- Skunk2 intake manifold (or ITB!)
- Hondata S100 ecu
- Denso Iridiums/Magnecor wires
- running on 100 octane fuel

i'm guessing about 190bhp?? i want to hit 200bhp! possible? (i don't have the money for whp equivalent )

whats your guess? and opinion?

In particular views on the Skunk2 IM! I've heard the B16A2 IM is good enough and skunk 2 IM would be a waste of money!

Also Skunk 2 cams... I want to use the car as a weekend car - not track - which means stage 1 offers the best power throughpout the powerband for my needs. Should i stick with skunk 2 stage I cams or maybe get stage II. To me it seems stage II most power comes after 7500rpms, whereas stage I power is between mid to high revs. Is this right?

Finally, would it be better to build compression by swapping for example to a spoon head gasket instead of the skunk2 IM?

Ok, first off, a b16 is a top end motor. It is almost pointless to try and build a stock crank, stock bore b16 to produce torque. with that in mind, you should ditch the 4-2-1 header. I think the S2S1's might be a little over kill for that motor with stock compression. I would honestly consider doing a type r cam, they are un-beatable with low compression motors.....Honda knows what they are doing. The S2 intake manifold I wouldn't do. I would do a Wicked over the S2, much better casting qualities over the S2. Hondata is great if you plan on having the motor tuned, as is the cam gears. If you don't plan on having the motor tuned, then why buy cam gears?(unless you're a good butt dyno person) Denso spark plugs and Magnecor wires are worthless for your set up. Stick with NGK's and oem Honda wires, 100 octane isn't gonna do ****. I have a b16b(ctr motor) in my car, it's gonna be 12.1-12.3 compression with big cams in it, it's gonna run on 91 octane. Simplify things man. You're building a mild motor, type r cams, do a headgasket if you can, Wicked manifold, 4 into 1 header, Hondata, and have it tuned. If you want, throw a fuel pump in there. It isn't a must, but you will gain hp on even a stock motor with a aftermarket fuel pump. You do all this and I see, dyno tuned, maybe 170 to the wheels. Good luck man......

Thanks for your reply. Seems like i have to junk quite a few things then!

You're right about the torque - i'm thinking of making some home made ITB's off a CBR 959. That should give me my low end and plenty of torque. I want low & mid end power.. at the end of the day my car is for the street, so i'm rarely gonna see 7000+ I just wanna make it a 200bhp car. Will stick with the DC 4-2-1 header for the mid-range power i want, plugs and wires have been already been bought. Haven't heard of the Wicked manifold... everyone seems to talk in S2 language on here!

I wanna keep costs low and still have fun!

With a B16, you have no choice but to rev it up to make power. The low end that you want is not going to be there with just cams. More compression is a start. Basically, the only thing you can really do is spin the motor faster. You are working against physics with a smaller motor. Making it more efficient at the stock redline will only get you so far.

What basis and grounds do you have for making such a statement.

The Stage one is a very mild cam with regard to aftermarket cams. It is one of the few that are CARB legal, telling you right off the bat that it CAN'T be overkill, as CA would never allow it. Being slightly more aggressive than Type R's it wil help open up the top end, if your valve train can support it, but will not sacrifice low and midrange. Will I have not personally run them, I would be hard pressed to every think the S2S1 is overkill for a stock block B.

Everyone seems to have such different ideas!

1. Will i get low end power or at least torque from a set of ITB's?

2. Will they work well with the setup above?

3. Will the whole setup provide good power throughout the RPM range?

thanks.
