input shaft bearing question
i was wondering if i could get an input shaft bearing from a different d series tranny and put it in my hf tranny....anybody got an answer?
Yes you can, but if you're tearing apart the tranny anyway, why not just get a new bearing so you know it's going to last!
I can get a complete rebuild kit (all bearings, syncros, and seals) for $200.. one bearing can't cost that much.

The big problem is going to be getting the "good" bearing out of the case without damaging it. If both trannies are non-si, you might be able to swap the entire front-half of the casing w/ the bearing still in it.
Hydro tranny will probably have a different size input shaft bearing anyway.. I wouldn't bother.
Like I said, a new bearing doesn't cost that much by itself. I'd at least get a new input shaft seal while you're in there. The honda catalog lists 2 different part #'s so you'll need to get the old one out to make sure you get the right one.
