Default Upgrading 96 spec Non-HID to 98 spec HID?

Hello,

I have a 96 spec non-abs model JDM ITR. I have the chance of picking up a pair of 98 spec jdm HID headlights. Are the 98 spec ITR HID headlights plug and play with the 96 spec ITR, or is there any kind of special hardware I will need to make the upgrade? I want to stay as oem as possible.

thanks

It should be plug and play ( well...for me it was ), but do a search for the wiring diagram for the harness just for safety's sake.

I dont know about the switch, but I do know they plug right in. Now you will have to get a windsheild washer fluid tank from a type R with HIDs. The ballast sits to far back on the driver side and interferes with the filler tube.

Correct. In a non-abs ITR they are plug n play. If you had ABS u would have to switch to the smaller 98 spec ABS.

94-97 have a bigger abs module which the hid ballast hits/rubs/touches it. 4 options to get around this. 1. bend the hardlines alittle 2. relocate the ballast 3. change to 98+ abs unit 4. just get rid of the abs all together.

MUGEN2PT2: which switch are you talking bout?

well I plugged the oem hid's into my 96 spec non-hid headlight harness and NO HID. Only the fog lights and city lights turn on. I have no power to the low beam HID lights and high lights. So these are not plug and play with the 96 spec heaglights harness. It seems the wire pattern in the connector is different. It seems I may need to add another wire to my 96 spec harness for the HID low beams to work. I have only 4 wires connecting to the male end connector and I'm pretty sure the 98 spec HID headlight male end connector has 5 wires connecting to it(5th for HID low beam current).

**Please help**

Is there anything I can do to make the hid work with out having to rewire anything? I'm clueless when it comes to wiring.

I also have the extra plug from the holagen lowbeam just hanging since it has no place to plug into on the OEM HID headlights. Could this still be used?

thanks

yes you will if you want to keep your windshield washer fluid bottle.
