Default For those of you using in car video equipement

looking to improve on my current setup. right now im just using a digital sony camera on a mount in my cage, but im wondering if anyone here has played around with external cameras to mount on fenders and various other locations. hoyytech seems to make a lot of stuff like mikes, camera boxs, data overlay
heres a pic of one of the setups im talking about

data overlay sounds nice, i just love watching those nsxfile vids!

ChaseCam... you'll be amazed how stable the video is, and it's small and light so it can be mounted just about anywhere

Or http://www.supercircuts.com "do it yourself" cam. (Not that there is anything wrong with case cam.)

I mounted the lipstick on top of the roof and really like the video. The next thing I'd like to do is add a multiplexer and get a small box with rear view footage. Often times people look at the video and wonder what in the world type of line was that? If rear footage were shown it would show that it was a protective line because a certain car was on my ***. What I like about mounting it on the roof is that I can see how close (or not) I get to my targets. When I had the camera mounted inside, the video didn't show the full story and how close I was to where I wanted to be.

Since I had a buddy host it and put it on it.com, might as well show you...

The best part of a lip stick is that it is much more stable video then just using a video cam corder.

Except the url is wrong.

The CORRECT url is http://www.supercircuits.com/

the one above has a typo and leads to a spam page.

I'd run a suspension case trunk PC off of off a power inverter, stick a PCI card in there with eight to twelve RCA inputs, and stick those cheap wireless cameras all over my car. I think that would do it- if the quad 300 gig drive RAID surivived the rough ride.

If you want to wait, the new stuff from AIM is coming to this shore shortly.

I am looking for something that is affordable that elimantes the need for the camcorder.

I would like something that coudl handle multiple channels of feed with Video, Sound and data aquisition. I would also like if it could all be fed wirelessly to a hard drive.

Is this possible?

Jones cam or the STACK DVR's will do that for you.

WE got no pricing yet. But estimate starting at around $1600.

This will do all that, and even have built in data acq for the stand alone version. With the exception of wireless.

Rice_Classic - What do you consider affordable? If you don't want to purchase a cam corder for doing this, crutchfield carries a VHS mobile vcr. Then add a multiplexer to that and you can get 99% of what you want.

Go with chasecam, it looks great even taking footage off the front of a shifter kart. Plus the fact that I autocross with the guy helps.

I have a helmet camera set-up for my fender.

I like the in-car shots better, were you can see the driver .
of course if you had multiple cameras that would be even better..

According to AIM, it won't be selling for less than $1800. Works in conjunction with your AIM data system (the base model has no data logging as far as I understand) for track maps, graphs, etc. The DVR with the internal loggin will be more expensive. Pretty cool, but don't go near it if you aren't going to use a data system IMO.
