Tach is 400ish RPM's off, 00' EM1
The tach on my 00 Si is around 8400 RPM's off. I hooked up a scanner to it and it is indeed reading off. Is there a way to calibrate it? It's scary spraying when you don't know when your about to bounce it. Are there any articles on calibrating the gauge? My fuel gauge also reads a lil above the red when it's low. My old Si would go past the red before I was low on gas and the tach was right on, I miss that, any help?
I know stock tachs are usually off, but it's typically not consistent throughout the range. Usually it's pretty close down low, then the higher RPM's it's off a little more. 400 all the time is odd.
That's a common problem with all the 99-00 Si's (EM1). The 99's I found to be farther off as they would usually read about 8500 rpm when they hit the fuel cutoff, and we know the cutoff is actually 8200. When I dyno'd my car the tack was also off a little and read a little higher in the upper rpm range, but it wasn't as bad as the 99's. It's not really scary when you're spraying because if you watch your tack you'll end up shifting before the actual fuel cutoff anyway.

ehh, well it is scary for me. I don't feel like bouncing while spraying, and I wanna try go up to around 8000. I still don't nkow exactly how off it is, I haven't held it at 8500 to make sure thats where it cuts on the tach. I think the guy that I bought it from fucked with it because all the gauges are off but the temp and speedo (tested it with one of those cop radars that post your speed).

on the bottem of my Sig theres a how to on how to reset your speedo meter, the same applies for your tach if its constantly off at 400 rpm, Its pretty simple to be honest. shouldent take you more then 30minutes.

Well if you know your fuel cut off is at 8200 and your tach is off on top of that and you visually shift it at 8000, that'll mean that you're probably going to be at least 500 rpm away from your fuel cut off, so TOTALLY safe.
I have hit my rev limiter before while running a dry nitrous kit at the track and nothing happened. I'm not saying that it is a good thing to do, but if you only hit it momentarily, it shouldn't be the end of the world.

for your fuel gauge, you can move it up and down, and it'll read how you want it to, so when the light comes on, move the needle to the red section, and etc.

i dont rev to 8000, i got to a guessing amount, normally try to shift around 8500-8600 on the tach, where it bounces right around 8600

If you know that, then shift around 8200-8300 RPM (on your tach) and you'll be fine and still have a safety margin. The beauty of nitrous is that you don't need to rev to the limiter to make power on it. It will actually make more power below the max rpm range.
