Default Help, b16 blown?!

yesterday i was coming home from the store in the early afternoon.. my car was fine all day, then out of no where it felt like it was misfiring, shaking really bad, super deep sound like a "putt putt putt" had almost no power to the wheels.. it was smoking a lil, so i turned her off, pulled over and checked under the hood. i saw nothing wrong, so i tried to start her up again and it just wouldnt turn over. i tryed 4-5 more times cuz it sounded like it wanted to start but just couldnt quite do it all the way, then i heard a big "PoP" from the front of my car and it smelled exactly like fireworks... its a 99 si, b16a2, 128k miles... i had to push her home.. this car has only twice not started in the little over a year ive had it and that was due to the battery so thats new... sorry this is so long i hope the amount of info helps figure out the problem.

get a long block from here: http://www.hmotorsonline.com/s...30022

sell the extra parts ie: head, extra sensors, IM etc.

probably cheapest route for a good engine replacement

Check your plugs and distributor. It might not be firing on all cylinders.

Couple of questions. Did you ever pull the motor apart? changed cams, cam gears, pistons. Do you have a modded ECU ( higher redline) . Did you have oil in the car? Is there any oil leaking from anythere? Does the car turn over freely or does it sound like its forcing or nothing at all.

sounds like timing belt to me....."POP" could have been a fight between ur piston and valves.....they usually both get thier ***'s kicked

That sounded like the time my map sensor or whatever the hell is on top of the throttle body was loose. I got a cel and then all the symptoms you described. Pushed it back in and bang... good as new.

Thats why I asked if the engine turns over very freely or not or none at all

Don't mean to jack the thread, but what are the stats on that B16a in the link. Is that the engine rated at 160hp with 8000 redline? I don't know all of the little code differences like B16a2, etc... Just curious, cause my civic needs a new engine.

alright thanks guys, you've helped me narrow down alot of the possibilitys and gave me some hope, i appreciate the help, im gonna check under the hood in the morning when its light outside "cuz its not in my garage right now its ouside " and see if its the map sensor first then ill go from there. i really hope its not blown, if it is, how much money could i get for it? cuz i have no honest clue, i have an Aem cai, dc header "brand new " and apexi Ws exhaust, ngk plugs and msg wires, stage 1 exedy clutch, and a few other goodies, i also only do royal purple oil changes, if anyone wants anything let me know, send a pm my way ill seriously hold **** for anyone that needs something, make me serious offers and ill let you know within a day or 2 if all it needs to leave, if i replace this motor, a b18c1 is being purchased because another si motor is soo much money for another torqueless wonder, gsr the best choice? i think so but any opinions are welcome. thanks again Bump this **** if you read this and want another Si back on the streets

Do you know if the smog laws in California are too strict to drop that bad boy in an EG?

And did you figure out what happened yet Aespooncivic?

it sounds like the timing belt slipped. Something similar happened to my bro's car and it was the timing belt. Checked it out, replaced it, did the timing and it's fine now.
oh and S92DX i asked the guy at the place where i smogged my car about that and he said you can swap any 1.5 or 1.6 liter honda motor in the eg civic so long as you keep all of the smog devices and your car passes smog. I haven't tried it because i'm still saving up for my swap. I don't know if it's true.
