96 accord how often to change plug wires
I'd say every 30K-50K miles, works for me. I do plugs every 10-15K miles and wires every 30K in previous cars, on my 96 I havent done wires yet tho.
Plug Wires will not last forever unless you have stainless steel ones like I have on my TR3. Wires should not be changed unless they are faulty! You can check them with an ohm meter to make sure their resistance is good. Check them at night to see if you have any arcing. My toyota cressida went 260,000 miles on the original wires and they were still fine when my head gasket went. Use excellent quality when you replace them as most replacements are not as good as OEM. I think Sumitomo is original on the accord. My understanding is go OEM when you do need to replace.
I see plug wires ten years old, all day long. Compared to some of the other asian cars the hondas have pretty good wires. One of the major killers of plug wires is running old spark plugs with a worn open gap. NGK plugs every 30k is worth the cost. Electricity is looking for the easiest path to ground, so if the plug gap is too big the juice tries to go out the side of the plug wire, we call it "snapping in the well"; you can hear the spark jumping to ground in the spark plug tube.
