Default How many of you are running stock rods in your B20vtec?

Just wondering if any of you have had any problems or not running the stock rods. I just had mine shotpeened and I'm running cr of 12.5-1. I haven't assembled the bottom end yet and I'm debating if these will be good for a max of 220 whp.

RPMs are more of the problem than overall output.

If you have to second guess yourself why not just buy some eagle rods for like $300 considering you plan to make 220whp its not worth the thousands of dollars your going to put into it if it blows from not spending 3 bills on rods, just a thought thats all.

thanks for the input, the only shitty thing is that I've already gotten my rods pressed onto the pistons, and the arp rod bolts installed and stretched. Just wondering if it's pretty common to see a rod snap in these setups or not

I currently use stock rods as well too. I used ARP rod bolt for good insurance and it is alway a good idea to fully balance the bottom end cause you will rev higher than the b20 is supossed to.

Do you mean wrist pins? If so, they should come complete with the piston sets you buy.

I run a CRVTEC setup in my CRX with the stock rods. The crank shaft was balanced and micropolished and I'm running aftermarket pistons with a stock ITR head. I keep the revs under 8K just for safety sake but so far I haven't had a problem with it. Makes awesome power, I was lucky enough to have a YS1 LSD tranny in it so launching with all the torque isn't as tricky as it might be with open diff setups.

Anyways, back on topic, I run stock rods and rod bolts. I have talked to several people about this to see if it would be a reliability issue. They all told me as long as I'm not constantly revving into the stratosphere that I'll be ok on stock rods/bolts. I have taken my car to 8200RPM a few times just for grins to see what it feels like, honestly I think its making the most power just a little before 8K rpms. So in my case I shift before then (usually about 7800). If you get some short gears you won't need to rev a CRVTEC setup to get fast times, the strength of this car lies in the fact that it builds power throughout the rev range much more effectively than smaller displacement Honda motors. Just my 2c.

i swear why people even chance **** like that..if your stupid stock rod bolts orr something fail one dday and u put a hole through your block and **** up your head..your gonna really be happy u saved 300 dollars and wasted round a grand at least.... oh well
