$4000 can buy you a lot of bike. Take the MSF class first, if you haven't already done so.

As for recommendations, I'd suggest something with not a lot of bodywork. Less costly for repairs in the long-run.

You're 19, getting any 600 is going to be crazy with insurance. I have a 500R and it was a great starter for me and half of $4000. But it is a Kawasaki though.

Remember your going to need to spend 350 on the msf in ny.
Plus another 500 because that's around the minimum your going to want to spend on gear.
Then you need insurance and a bike that might need some work done on it.

Riding isn't cheap

My first bike was a 01 F4i... never had a problem with it and it had low mileage... I since graduated to my 1000 and my roomate bought the f4i as his first bike... he also loves it... I've ridden my fair share of 600's and liked this one the best...

as far as a 600 being too much bike... when I first got mine I thought it was, but I was kind of bored with it after just a few months... dont get me wrong I took it to 167 MPH, so it's not slow by any means...

whatever you decide to get... just respect it, or it will hurt you

good luck

It wasn't funny the 1st time you posted this less than 2minutes ago, and its not funny now. Using the same gay link over and over again is LAME

LOL...What a dick.. ...You're even lamer for even pointing that out...I just saw these two typical posts saying they wanted to purchase a new bike when marmalades post was right there on top in plain sight....I was actually just going to link them to each others thread but I thought posting that world's longest bike would be funnier....
