best d series engines?
did a serach. what would be the best d series motor to work with if you are going turbo? and also anyone knwo all the d series engine codes? i know the b series n h series just not the d series lol thanks
you need to quit paying attention to stupid people. The D-16 motors are all about the same, I mentiones the Y series due to them being newer, and having less miles in most cases.
lots of people spin rod bearings in the y8's. I have myself done so. they also have a head that is not ideal.
the z6 is solid great potential all around
the A6 has the strongest bottom end.
m.

How exactly dose the A6 have a "stronger bottom end"?
As for the spinning of rod bearings, that can be caused by many factors, usually owner related, not motor related.

Bob Norwood built me a D.....A A6 block and a DX head from a 96+.....Something with the head on the 96+ that has something to do with the compression. A little higher. I know high compression and turbo don't mix but the D's don't have alot of tq till the turbo kicks in, So he wanted to give me a little more, till the turbo came up.
Maybe that will help.

i would personally say either the Y8 or the Z6. i love my Y8 and i work with a guy who is building a Y8 right now but i also work with a guy who swears by the Z6 and so on. Those are the two D-series engines in which i always hear people talking about the most so i would say either of those.
Build yourself a minime engine. Y7 bottom with a Y8 head. The Y7 shortblock is dirt cheap at most core supply houses (250 canadian) and the head is fairly inexpensive if you scour the yards (I paid 275 canadian).
the best engine in the form of a d is a mixture of a few parts from 88-00. as far as bottom ends the a1 and a6 both have steel mains which is a big plus. the a1 block however is not capable of bolting on a sohc head with out modification. i have seen it done but only once. you can just pick up basicly any d16 block and they will be identical. the newer y series engines seem to be throwing rods alot due to a weaker set oil pump but can easily be fixed for a few cents. i have a few washers to bump up the oil pressure on those from .020, .050, .070, .120 but you don't need to go much larger than the .050 or so. the a1, a6, z6, and y8 all have alittle bit more webbing and structural strength overall to the block but unless your really gonna be putting some power down i don't think that would be necissary to go out of your way to find them. also the newer y engines have the oil dipstick located on the side of the engine verses the front of the block in the middle where your turbo and mani will be sitting. as far as the heads go i would pick the d15b, d16z6 head, same exact casting, both are a p08 so don't spend any extra cash on the jdm one when it's the cam that's a little bigger. the ports are straight unlike the y series that do just that. a y pattern which results in much better mid-range torque but suffers on top end. any more questions please ask. i love the D. peace.

Stupid people???
How did the stupid people determine that the oil pump volume was reduced in the 96+ D16's???

i cant tell whom you are calling stupid...
oil pump volume reminds me of this thread---> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1019689
as far as best d-series... too hard to pick. they all have good and bad parts, mix them together and make the best.

They also cast the gear out of a different material in the Y series motors.
