ACT clutch in y8
today was interesting. i was driving to work and something felt wierd with the car today. i have an act xtreme clutch on a y8 motor at ~7 psi daily driven. id say its been almost a year ~14k miles. what is the average life of the clutch? i know the variables such as driving style, where u launch it at, etc. but im looking for a ruff estimate from the people who have this clutch with or w/o boost. opinions are appreciated. TIA
I have had my ACT xtss since I was boosted almost a year ago. Been running about 215whp daily and I beat the **** out of my car. It handles me launching at the track with slicks and on the street with drag radials. It still feels like a brand new clutch. I also broke it in on the dyno.
hmmm. on a another note, i was drivin last night and i was in 2nd, shifted at 7k. waht was wierd was that the car cut off and momentarly it turned back on like normal. i usually max shift at 6k - ~6500. i thought the y8 rev limit was 7300. now the car feels funny. i grabs but i guess the word im looking for is ... stutter at low RPM's ... ideas ?

Im running the xtss also and i love it. Been driving for a few months now with it and at track a few times. No problems watsoever and it still grabs like it did when I first got it.
What makes you think its your clutch?
Let me make sure i understand everything right before i give my opinion.
You had the clutch and new flywheel for a year (about 14k miles). The other night you shifted to 7k instead of your normal 6 to 6.5k right? Now the car shakes and tries to stall? Am i correct so far? If not let me know.
From the sounds of it it doesnt sound clutch related. Why did you shift at 7 instead of 6.5? Either way i think that should be fine. Do some basics, do a compression test, then look at your mounts. Lift the car on jackstands and have someone drive the car (in air) and watch the shifts, if the mounts move really bad then it could be mounts.
To check the clutch drive 5 to 10 mph and shift through to 4th gear. If the car stalls then the clutch grabs, if it shakes but still goes then the clutch is slipping.

the mounts are new with energy bushings. now wehn i try to drive, i put it in gear, start to press the gas, it starts to rumble/shake. and then the CEL starts flashing. i wonder if the clutch is slipping possbily. i remember on the stock one, it shook and the rpms went up but the car barely moved. now im thinking [with your thoughts] could it be that since this is a much harsher clutch than stock, its just shaking more ?
i started it tonight just to see was it engine or drivetrain related. i started the car, let it warm up a bit, revved it to about 5k. smooth. seems to me its drivetrain. going to autozone to get an axle.
now, i wouldnt think its timing b/c if i revved it up and no clicking or hitting, its gotta be something else. im going to change out the axle tomorrow after school. hope that fixes it
