Mugen Coilovers vs. Tein Coilovers
Hey everyone,
Just getting my project under way, a 2000 integra ls/vtec.....Im just wondering what suspension would suit me better. Daily driver, some drag events, some road racing, lot's of back road roasting! Thanks...

Stay away from the N1 coilovers.
The TEIN systems are good (HA/HR) but are prone to rusting if you live in an area that salts the roads.
The Mugen Lowdown is also good for what you're intending.
I suppose it just depends on your budget.

The Mugen (moton suspension system) has a 22mm-OD piston rod for more fluid displacement, making it more responsive at low damping velocitites and an external resevoir to handle large fluid displacement caused by the piston rod, and costs almost 4 times the what the tein's cost. The retail for mugen coilovers per corner is $1,050-$1200. I don't know anyone that has them so I can't tell you which is better, but I do know plenty of people with the Teins and they are satisfied with their performance.
NWP4LIFE,
FYI, Mugen does NOT make Moton shocks! Moton makes Moton -- imagine that
I run the Mugen N1 dampers on my ITR race car, and for the money, they are the BEST out of the box setup you can buy. Realtime has been running them since 98' and how many championships have they won?
Also, I would not recommend running the N1's on the street.

I was also told by MugenEG6 that the Mugen N1's are WAY too stiff for the street (he has them on his eg). However, I have yet to hear how the N0's handle, since they're supposed to have more street-friendly valving, so those might be a good setup. If I were looking in that price range of suspension and it's a street/track car, I'd look into Tein RE, Zeal Super Function, Mugen N0/N1, or Buddy Club P1. Tein N1's are nice, but unless you really know how to mess w/ the compression and rebound individually, you can mess up your handling. I'm not sure how the RE's, Super Function's, and BC P1's are on the street tho. They're supposed to be track-duty coilovers so I'd assume the damping's appropriately stiff. If they're like the Mugen N1's, then you might wanna look at something like Buddy Club Racing Specs (SIINSI just got a set of those) or Zeal B6/S6 instead to avoid kidney damage. HTH.
The Showa made Mugen N1's can be ordered with different spring rates but since this setup is meant for track duty so the typical rate is pretty high. I have been running 20kg/16kg Zeal S6's on the street for almost a year w/o any problems. I had '96 spec Tein N1's before I got these and the Zeal's actually give a better ride because of the valving.
Yes, any Real Race suspension will be way to stiff for the street. Check out the Mugen N1 zero ... meant for street & track use.
i would sugesst the lowdowns....i know i want some, but some of that n1 stuff is not really practical for the street....so dont go overboard
The Mugen Lowdown package is probably one of the best street/track package you can buy. I ran it for about 10 months before I switched over to the Mugen N1 dampers.
You shouldn't run the Mugen N1's with a springrate lower than 600 lb/in or else you will wreck them.
I think Andrew runs 600F/900R. Realtime used 900F/1200R!
Stock is about 243 lb/in F/R

Wow. I sure would hope that the Mugen N1 system is the best outta the box. It's the most expensive system out there, and you have to buy/pay for the springs separate too I believe.
Hey Paul, fvck you. Just because you spent more on your "fully sponsored" JUN motor than I spent to prepare my WHOLE car, you don't need to constantly harp on the cost of my shocks -- its getting REALLY old.
BTW don't your TEIN RA shocks and springs list for around $2500? Not that much less in comparison to the $2900 for the Mugen N1's and springs? I guess that leaves you with a little less than $500 to spend on some tiiite decals from your *sponsors*.

The most popular springs out there (at least in Asia) is Swift. I *think* it's an Aussie company but not sure. Their springs are 40% less weight than a traditional ones. Greatly reduced unsprung weight.

Calm down richy rich. Maybe u need more laps at Skip Barber. I thought that I was speaking the truth about the price. I also really love the rumors about the cost of my engine and other stuff. Just a reply to your post is all so defensive!
Sposorship means not paying full price on stuff. I can't afford to pay retail on any of the stuff I have, let alone super 10,000 pound capacity tow vehicles, enclosed transporters, supa cage, on and on yada yada. Why don't you go to world challenge with the rst of the mega money makers istead of playing the grassroots game. Your $4000 Skip Barber credentials should make you a front runner in WC. I bet you can find the cash to run the whole season underneath the cusions in your house. Jeez!
