Default CAMSHAFT GURU'S check in please...

I'm gettin real tired of losin sleep over cams. I am going to purchase some real soon, and I can't make up my mind which ones I want to go with.....PLEASE read my motor specs and gimmie your opinion.....

Motor:
B16b, stock sleeve, stock crank
12.1-12.3 compression
H-data s200
DTR header
Rc310's

I'm looking for as much peak hp as possible. I wouldn't mind a lumpy idle, I wouldn't mind a camshaft that doesn't like street driving as the car is not daily driven. What it comes down to is that I want the most amount of hp using the stock crank and be able to run on pump gas at sea level with a factory ported head. I'm considering S2S3's, Jun 3's, BC4's, M22's, and Toda C's. Again, I want the biggest camshaft possible for this set up. Let me know what up fellas......gimmie some opinions!!!

did you know that toda grinds a, b, and c were all designed for the b16b?
ask cheetah
toda c = 12.5lift on both intake and exhaust cams.
his compression is good for them imo.
also the m22's have 12.1 lift on both intake and exhaust cams. imo, i wouldn't compare them to skunk2 stg21 nor buddy club 3+

IMO i think that skunk stage 3's ,jun 3,bc4+,and toda c's is over caming the motor
i think that toda b's or skunk stage 2's would work perfect for that set up

You keep asking which cam you should go with, and say you want a big cam. Big cams (M24, S2S3, etc) will just overcam your engine.

I've been talking with Tbone and he really likes the S2S3. He also mentioned the new S2 po 1's. I hardly think that the S2S3 is gonna overcam the motor. As t stated, and i agree with him, they are a very streetable cam as the primaries are fairly small, smaller than the S2S2's for that matter. BC4's are still a consideration, I just think that allot of people think that these cams are for big motors (2.0+) and I am second guessing that. Tbone has backed me up on that theory somewhat.

I don't wanna settle for a camshaft that everyone has done. I want something borderline silly, I think the S2S3 is gonna be a good cam for me.....keep em comin??

Tbone also uses a 2.0. He has .4 liters on you.

I don't really understand why you are trying to be different by staying 1.6 and using a cam "nobody else" uses. It's a Honda B series, everything has been done.

You'll be a lot faster with a B18 crank and bigger cams than you will 1.6 and small cams.

I realize that I'll be faster if I were to put a bigger crank in, but you're missing my point. I want to extract every bit of hp using the stock sleeves and stock crank. I don't understand why thats so hard to understand. Sure, if my only purpose was to go as fast as possible, I wouldn't have bought a b16 in the first place. I love the powerband of a b16, so thats what I went with. I just want to see what I can do with this .6 liters instead of "stroking" it or building a ls/vtec like everyone else and there cousin does........

I base my suggestions on they way the explination of needs are and what they specificly ask for...
He told me he liked the small lobe syle primary.. He stated it was a daily car, he stated he's above 12.0 cr, he stated he wanted a very peaky style cam with big top end..
He also asked me to choose out of the list he gave me.. I just added some advice on what I have seen with the new skunk pro 1's becuase I tested them this weekend(will post results this week btw)

I told him for a daily I liked the sk3 because
1 They are the easiest on the valvetrain out all the rest= will last longer(low cam)
2 The primarys are small= better gas mileage
3 big vtec will give him his big peaky top end...

So in all that , what does the fact that I have a 2.0 have to do with anything?
Why does everyone assume that my motor is the only motor I have seen and or tunned cams in before? Thats getting annoying

Also everyone who suggests that a skunk 3, Rocket, or buddyclub is overcamming a 12.0 + b16
have you guys ever tunned or personally tested or tunned anything to back this up?

The skunk 3 cam isnt as large as everyone thinks it is..

I'd like to know how you guys determine whether you're over-camming or not.

It's just that i've been told i was overcamming with my old LS build and it put out 180whp/141lb-ft.
B18a1@10.4:1 w/ P73-a0, crower 404s and a lot more, but you get the idea

I have had jun 3's in a similar set up for about three years now. I love them. I have never had any problems. I made 195 @ the wheels @ 9,700 RPM's. (with P/S and A/C) I know there a lot of other cams now to choose from. I have only had experience with jun's, and I would use them again. I think rocket's cams made a few more Hp than Jun 3's. So maybe those would be better since you are looking for the most peak power. You will be happy with the Jun's.

1.6 and Big cams!!!! So much fun. The majorityof people think you need to have 2.0+ to have a fun motor. I love my "little motor that can". Good luck Clean rice!

Hahaha, thanks allot nasi. I really love Jun 3's, I have witnessed them perform over and over again...I love em. It's still a toss up between those and Skunk 3's. Hell, all of these cams are awesome, but the Skunk 3's are lookin real good. I really wanna know what the pro spec 1's are also. Big up to nasi and Tbone!!!
