buy what you like. if your just gonna have fun with the car, either will do just fine. if you want to build one into a racecar, the hatchback would be your best bet. where do you plan to 'ROAD RACE' and in what series?

If $2500 is your budget, better off buying a kart.

Del sol...
Pros,
-Better weight distribution
-better aerodynamics
-Lower CG
-Shorter wheelbase

Cons,
-HEAVY, since it is a targa top, there is a lot of reinforcement in the floor, if you are going to run it in a Unlimited class like H1 or HU, you are going have trouble getting it light, but for H4 it is great.

Hatch...
Pros,
-Very light, Easily get it down around 2000lbs with driver

Cons,
-Very common
-higher CG
-Poor aero

I had the same choice to make last summer, except I was deciding between the del sol and and a second gen teg. For H4, I think I made the right choice. My slow has been running great and it is the only one in Nor Cal.

Either way you wont be disappointed, both would make a great racecar.
