Hard starting R
Not quite sure what the problem is but my R has troubles starting after I let it sit overnight or for a few hours. Basically, it turns over but doesn't catch right away and start up. I usually turn it over for no more than 4 to 5 seconds then stop and try again in a few more seconds. When it's turning over it sounds strong. The second time it starts. I have changed the spark plugs and wires, new cap and rotor, just had a valve adjustment done, new AEM fuel rail, filter, FPR. Not sure what else I should look at. I'm thinking maybe a new battery as the original from '99 is still in there. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance.

1) let the fuel pump prime the system (key stop where dash lights are on, but starter not yet engaged)
2) crank it just a bit longer
3) might be time for a new barttery

this would be my best bet. turn to on position and wait a few seconds. then crank her up.

i like to crank following the 6 beep prompts after putting the key in...if i have time to wait. otherwise, from experience my immobilzer system was shot and was replaced under warranty at the dealer...i dont know if you guys in Can had an immbolizer system in 99. something you might consider if you do have it.

Nope. '00 and '01 had immobilzers.
Thanx for the help guys.

If your valve adjustment was done improperly and they are too tight it could cause problems in starting. also are your spark plugs gapped right? and then you FPR, has that been set right?
if the teg has immobi ($30 key and a green key logo in cluster)
does the key blink fast when cranking first?
if it does... pull key out, put it back in and then to #2 pos for 1 second... (let the car beep 1x) then start it.... esp in the cold will the ecu take a split second longer to recco. right key in ignition

If you can't make it to expo to co-pilot I'll be pisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssed
.
I don't think it would hurt to change the battery, perhaps the battery just doesn't have enough juice to get it going the first time. The fuel pump sounds like a prime candidate. Looks like you took care of everything else.
Good luck,
Brandon

My car has always hard more trouble starting then it should in cooler weather like around freezing. I assume the battery isn't all that great. By trouble I mean it just soudns like its having a harder time then my mom's 2001 Accord let's say. I don't use synthetic oil either.

My guess (and don't quote me on this) would be that the battery is not currently (when starting the car) at a normal functioning operating tempurature. The cold weather could be effecting the chemi's that are inside the battery. **shrug...

Thanks for the sarcasm. I expect it to be harder in cold weather but I wrote it was harder than normal

Glad you got it figured out. Mine has some trouble starting after sitting in the hella cold over night. I turn thekey on, pump the gas twice and fire it up. Usually stalls though the first 2 times I turn it on unless I am giving it gas to warm it up.
