Default VTEC controller: Can i only hook up vtec control wires and not fuel control wires?

My car goes into limp mode everyday because my Fields causes the ECU to throw a MAP sensor code.........i don't need to use the fuel controller, but i need the vtec controller because of my CTR cams........would it be possible to disconnect the fuel contoller wires and only leave the vtec control wires? or does vtec need to see MAP to be activated?
