Where to Get ODB1 Harness
I am getting an OBD1 Civic EX ecu so I can hook it up to an hondata. But I need an harness for the OBD1 ecu. You guys know where I can get one for a good price or ever dirt cheap... hehehe.
let me know cause that all I need to finish my mods.
Thanks,

very few people actually make them. I'm using one of kenji's harnesses.
email him at kenji211@gte.net for more info.

Well, the dealer is charging $300 for the harness and I feel that's a lil too much for a harness. I am going to check with Kenji.
Sounds interesting, how....

That's true, you can do that. HX saved ~75 bucks that way (IIRC?). It's worth the 75 extra imo though. I'm kinda weary of fuggen around with ecu wiring.. dunno why.

...plus gained the know-how of making one.You need an ECU plug for the year of your car and the harness plugs from a OBDI car. Here is the ECU plug Im refering to...

The end product will look like this...

. There are three of them...
Also..I have the ECU pinouts for the OBDI plugs, and assuming you have a '98 Type R..I also have those pinouts
Its just a thing of matching up the pins and soldering

Never had one problem with mine..worked the first time I plugged it in, no codes or anything.
Took about 3-4 hours of figuring it out, double and trippe shecking connections and shrink wrapping the connections. Yea..pretty time consuming...but hey, whats $200 worth to ya?

It cost me $50 to make my own harness...vs buying one for $250...so I saved $200

IIRC, in your original post, that one connector cost $50 (from another ECU). Are we not including wires, the 3 other plugs, soldering gun/iron, solder, heat shrink, solder sucker, etc into the price these days?

Oops..sorry. I already had a soldering gun and solder, got the shrink wrap for free and I hacked my stock HX ECU to get the OBDII plug. The only thing I bought was the OBDI plugs for $50 (all 3).
Yikes, you didn't use a solder sucker? If you were to do this yourself and didn't have the parts, I'd guesstimate that you were looking at 150ish.. 50 for the 3 small plugs, whatever the big one cost (I've heard close to 50 as well for that one), soldering gun/iron, bunch of wires, the pin connector things, solder sucker, heat shrink, etc. Also some of that epoxy crap would be nice on the big connector backside to cover up/protect the pins mor than heat shrink.
If youre a do-it-yourselfes then I think its worth it...if not, just dish out the cash

...but if there a problem (and there are problems sometimes even with ones you buy pre-made)...it'll be harder to trouble shoot since you werent the one who assembled it.

No, I took aprt the OBDII ECU and used a dremel to detach the plug from the pc board...look at the picture in the earlier post. No extra wires are (usually) needed, because the OBDI plugs come with several inches of wire attached to them.
Anyways, after using a harness, I think I'd replace or extend the wires anyways to bring the wires to above the ecu. with no interior (in my case) some of those wires like to stick out with the normal harness length.. I just need to move them I guess.
