You do get your money back after renting one.

Got a metal fork, or crowbar type deal?

use your teeth...
really, have some funds saved up when working on cars. a balljoint can be safely separated only with proper tools.
do not hit the bolt with a hammer unless you are planning to replace the ball joints.

Hit the damn thing with a hammer, but make sure you have a big hammer. That is what I always do and it works all the time. Just hit the control arm at the end where the ball joint meets. I repeat do not hit the threads with the hammer.

if it is the bottom one i also had problems. i banged for an hour wouldnt come out. then i took off the hole lower control arm and it came off in one hit. i think it has to do with angle and leverage

why not just rent a pickle fork?! or take the assembly to a mechanic and have him pull it for $10.

u know theres a place to just hit with a hammer and it will pop off right? see where that pick is with the rachet? on the end of the lca u see like a nipple thing sticking off it just hit that. plus ur changine the knuckles so hit up on the threads ur gonna junk them anyway. BUT i think ur talking about the one on the tie rod end(connected to the steering) just hit upward ont he front of the bolt dont hit the thread its will come off. Oh i have the driver side knuckle i'll get rid of for 30 bucks. i live in norcal off sunrise blvd in roseville, citrus heights. if near there come pick this one up and hit up pick n pull for another.

Pickle forks suck, they rip the boots and here is what one did to a ball joint. Yes it probably was good the pickle fork did this rather then having it come apart while driving.

All I can say is I hate buying used cars from people who don't take care of them.
