cross-member clearance question?? sms-profab header??
Has anyone had problems with the sms header hitting an EF cross-member?? I'm on a budget and don't have money to change the cross-member at this time.
My proposed set up will be:
B18C block
SMS header
etc.
Thanks H-T members!!

I believe it is a 4-2-1 design with a 2.5 inch collector.
Is it really necessary to notch the cross-member? Anyone have any pics of this?
Thanks again H-T

Yes, if you plan to use the stock crossmember, you will have to notch a big chunk of it out. It also depends on how much clearance the header will need, as some headers have different designs than others.
Here is a pic I found from searching of a stock crossmember notched:

That's pretty much your only choice if you want to keep the stock crossmember. The cheapest crossmember out there is the place-racing, which should allow clearance for whatever header you are thinking about getting.
Other than that, your pretty much limited by the amount of money you want to spend.

Buy a traction kit, L con is the way to go. I installed a 98 type r header with a b16 swap in my buddy's 91 hatch and we had to cut the crossmember to crap. Buy a traction kit. It's lighter, stronger, has great clearance, eliminates wheel hop, and is cosmeticly pleasing. we actually beand the first crossmember we tried to modify and had to use on i had laying around. L con traction kits are the way to go.
nice work!!

probably about $2 in gas and $0.50 in wire. Plus a little bit of wear on a grinding wheel.
around $3
