I havne't been on HT in forever. I've been racing Pro7 in SCCA and NASA so I haven't had much reason to come back here. But now that we are allowing the Honda Cup drivers in SCCA, I was curious to see how many post here.
Only 3 HC drivers have registered so far so I'm somewhat concerned about car count... I would think for our first race of the year, at Cal Speedway, a bunch of HC cars would show... hopefully thats the case.
Anyways, if you are driving this weekend, post up your car and car number so I can cheer for ya.
Just as long as you cheer for pro7 #20.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the number of entries so far...
We're not expecting a record turn out for the first round. Considering the whole thing was put together in three months we are lucky to have the 8 or so who are intending to run at California Speedway.
Several cars are still being built and have promised to show up at the second or third rounds. I actually heard of two more cars, a Civic EP3 and an RSX just yesterday, which are being prepared right now specifically for Honda Cup. Cars that I was unaware of? Aparently several Tuner Companies have taken up the challenge and are going to build Honda Cup Cars for this season? There will be at least 12 to 15 cars competing by the second or third round.
Another problem that I am a little concerned about, is that people are not aware of the mountain of Red Tape SCCA ties it's New members up in when they try to get a Competition License...
Most people are under the impression that if they have a NASA or other organizations Competition license that they will be able to just turn up and run in SCCA Events? Not So! Yes, previous experience will be taken into account, but it takes time to get all the documentation completed... So don't expect to arrive at the track, join up, get a license and go racing.... It wont happen!
I have been trying to get all the documentation together to obtain a permit for the owner of Buddy Club, Mr JunSan Chen of Taiwan to come and run his Asian Touring Car Championship winning car with us... I live here, and speak the language, and I can barely comprehend the documentation required, or the need for it all?
As grateful as I am that SCCA Cal Club have supported the forming of this new Class, and not wanting to sound too critical... Hopefully we will be able to drag SCCA kicking and screaming into the 21st century soon?
However those of us who are supporting this new class hope to put on a great race and look forward to new competitors joining us as their cars are completed.
Good luck,
Kiwi

El Pollo Diablo - I recongize your name from years past... what kinda car did you drive in 01-02 years??
Kiwi - You bring up some good points. I sure hope the HC works out with SCCA as I believe its a strong wave of the future. Not only will it bring lots of racers out, it attracks younger people into road racing. I worked the LA Auto Show booth for Cal Club, and so many younger guys were interested in Jeff Owens (?) car then they were some of the other cars displayed. Now obviously they all weren't necessarily curious because they want to race, but it may have planted some seeds for the future. Also, HC seems to have gained a bad rep as bad, out of control drivers. I hope this rep is proven wrong in the coming months.

I don't want get into the bad rep. thing, except to say this... The individual who has put those ideas into certain Cal Club members heads... needs to take a good long look at his own far from incident free racing career?

Neither would I, hopefully it proves to be untrue.
I kinda just wanted a list of who thinks they are going to go so I can maybe stop by your pit and talk about your car. I haven't "hung out" with Honda/Acura guys in forever.

I think a lot of people will be there checking things out. Nobody knows how it's going to go. For those that don't know, the rules are a little different for SCCA's Honda Cup as compared to NASA's Honda Challenge. It's not like pro 7 where the cars can load up at SCCA and unload at NASA. There are some additional safety requirements such as fire systems and extra fuel tank straps that need to be installed for Honda Cup.
A lot of people don't have their cars ready yet and others want see how the event goes before they commit to the series. There should be plenty of ex, current, and future honda racers wandering around out there. I think we'll be easy to find.
I'll be out there in a blue Buddy Club EK coupe.
You gonna be out there Pollo?
