Default Oil, and gas light

I have a 97 Civic HX. My oil seems to get burnt up pretty quickly, but my oil light never goes on. I check my oil level about every 1,000 miles. The oil tends to get below the bottom hole on the dipstick, but the oil light never goes on...Also, my gas light doesn't go on...I remember when I first bought the car, the oil light would come on around a turn, but it doesn't do that anymore. The gas light has never turned on...Any suggestions? Could it be the bulbs? Also, at what RPM does my hp peak? I believe I have the d16y5 ...? Thanks.

When the light is hitting the gauge though...I can see the gas light. Or is it just useless? Thanks.

well i kno that your D16Y5 produces 115bhp @ 6200 rpms, 103lb-ft @ 4600 rpms and it redlines at 7100rpms. i was wondering....does ur car leak alot of oil or is your car burning oil??

From what I've read, certain EKs did not come with a gas light. My 00EX did, but it's possible yours didn't.

The oil light is not an oil level light - it is an oil pressure light. If it comes on because there's no pressure due to low oil, that is a very bad thing. You have to check your oil level manually at regular intervals.

Wow...thats scary. The oil light will only come on if its super low because if I remember correctly its an oil PRESSURE light. So if its on you have no oil pressure, it doesn't mean your out of oil (but thats one reason it could come on).

Edit: looks like the prev post beat me to it !

There isn't any oil spots on the ground or anything...So as far as I know there are no oil leaks, it just uses oil very quickly...Any suggestions?

yeah, B-series! as far as the oil light, its very bad if your oil gets so low that it comes on. i belive it is programed to turn on around 5psi. 5psi is LOW!
