Fuel Cells...What's Legal?
Im building a race car that will see no street use and I am a little confused about fuel cells. I want to mount the cell in the spare tire area of my car (1985 RX7). I know that the cell must be enclosed in a metal container if it is going to be mounted in the drivers compartment. My questions is...Can i use one of those steel/metal fuel cells and have it in the compartment?
Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

The car will be built for the NHRA's Quick 16. As of now there really are no pro classes for RWD, unibody, lexan, aftermarket trans, etc. cars, besides the Modified class. Im shooting for 9's. Wishfull thinking but ive got my hopes high.
NHRA has pretty clear regs. about this. The fuel cell (plastic or metal) must be entirely enclosed by a sheet metal enclosure on the inside of the passenger's compartment. The bottom side that is exposed to the outside must have the same type of shield, but you are allowed cut outs for the fuel line outlets. Hope this helps!
