Default Do I need a relay for power door locks? (aftermarket)

I added power door locks to my 1990 HB. I am using a Viper 791xv. Do I need a relay to power the door locks? As of now I just have them wired into the blue and green wires from the brain.

I did a "test run" on the alarm before I go back to reassemble and tidy up everything.....but my power door locks don't work, they just seem to "click," but don't actually lock or unlock the doors.

TIA

YES!!

you need the relays! What you really should get is the DEI 451M as this unit has the two relays already setup as needed.

The outputs from the brain are like 200 milla-Amp transistor outputs. Those actuators you added draw alot more than that... not sure how much but the fuse in the 451M is for 10 amps.

If you keep trying to lock/unlock w/o the relays you'll burn the lock and unlock outputs on the brain up, and then you'll be screwed.

Grrr...Cartoys told me the brain didn't need relays!

Anyone know where I can get just the relays? I already have the actuators in.....

Thanks!

EDIT: found them!

Looks like you figured it out. yes you need them, few alarms have onboard relays for power locks since most cars already have keyless entry/powerlocks. Most brains only give 500ma output or so on the lock outputs, which is not enough to run the motors.
