Default Furious owner trashes new car

An angry woman yesterday publicly smashed up her new Honda CRV in protest against what she said was the carmaker’s failure to take responsibility for the vehicle’s persistent problems.

“The company has never shown any responsibility [for the vehicle],” said 28-year-old Duenpen Silaket.

Her protest took place at 10am in front of the Shinawatra III Building on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road in Bangkok.

More than 100 onlookers, including police, watched as Duenpen drove a hammer through the vehicle’s windshield and then smashed the bonnet with a shovel.

Duenpen covered the car with signs saying, “Had it been good, I would not have done such a thing. Let’s mourn for Honda”.

Duenpen was accompanied by three relatives, who called a nurse to treat her when she was injured by glass from the windscreen.

Duenpen said she bought the car on November 27 and drove it from a showroom two days later only to find it had many problems and defects.

“At first I was not so worried about the squeaking noise from the engine, or the fact that the vehicle would automatically steer left. But the problems became worse, and I was repeatedly unable to start my engine,” she said.

When she complained, she said the salespeople told her only a few vehicles had such problems and that she expected too much.

“There were too many times when I couldn’t start my engine. When I called for help from the service centre, they said I had to take care of it myself,” said Duenpen.

She said other Honda CRV owners must have suffered the same fate, but had simply not come forward.

“I hope Honda will take more responsibility,” said Duenpen. She later went to Paholyothin police station to report the incident.

Honda Automobile Thailand Co Ltd (HATC) yesterday said it had tried to find the best solution for Duenpen and that company officials last met her on Wednesday.

“We feel sorry for causing inconveniences to the customer . . . However, we regret to know about the customer’s action this morning,” HATC president Yoichi Aoki said in a press release yesterday.

He said HATC had been in constant contact with Duenpen and planned to talk with her again on February 7 at a meeting arranged by the Office of the Consumer Protection Board. Duenpen has reportedly asked that the car be replaced after having to seek repairs three times this month even though the company assured her that the problems had been corrected.

Default Stupid Gas Hogging SUV's

I have heard that the CRV's have issues with the ignition switch and that they were on recall. I wouldn't own a CRV EVER. I am a big fan of Honda but I have heard too many bad things about the CRV's.
