Default Arggghhh!!! Helms is SOOOO expensive

Just got an online quote for a Helms manual for my 94 teg since they finally have international shipping( I'm in Australia).
$60 for the manual ... and $95 for shipping and $18 for handling!!!
Thats absolutely insane ... I'd end up paying over $AUS300 for the manual!!
Does anyone know of any places that will ship the manual at a decent rate??
Tah
Mike

How much would it be to ship the manual through UPS? If you know people in the states maybe someone can buy the manual then ship it to you cheaper.

yeah, that's the same one as the helms.

btw, that's also the reason why i don't have a helms. too expensive. i dont' have money for an intake, let alone a manual.

a bud keep stelling me, it's a good investment, but hell, if i invested in every good investment, i would have nothing left.

I think I paid about $80 for mine. if you're going to work on your car a lot, I say its worth it. I'm glad I bought mine. I got mine from the manual that came with the car. its at the end of the booklet.

i got mine from http://www.helminc.com .. it has saved me so much money.. i got it so that i wouldnt mess up the clips and taking apart door panels and everything else when i was taking my car apart to install the car audio equipment and run wiring, but down the road on maintenance and repairs it has more than paid for itself...

i had the haynes that combines the G6 civic w/ the G3 teg previously.. wasnt as detailed.. had way less pix/diagrams. but then again it was also 1/4 the price..

it's worth every penny after you look at it and realize how much in labor it will save you by not having to goto the dealer or a shop to fix something that you know is easy....

I remember see on the website http://www.hlj.com which is a website that specializes in selling Japanese car models and stuff to the U.S. and other countries, the shipping was only about $8-$9 for one or two 1/24-scale models, using UPS International. So surely a book wouldn't cost too much more.

if you had one you'd kno how big and heavy it is.. i think its about 1,000 pages dunno its very detailed.. has lots of drawings and diagrams and diagnostic flowcharts.. dunno about the car models your referring to... but hell the place i order my korean pop cd's charges like $3/ea for shipping a cd.. so i thought $3 to ship a big *** manual was cheap..

but yeah the helms manual pays for itself... i've gotten through a lot of work that would have been expensive to take to the dealer or a shop.. helms manual

does the helm's manual include all regular maintenance information along with repair info?

In helminc.com they have 4 different manuals: owner's manual, shop/service manual, body repair manual and electrical troubleshooting manual.
Which are worth buying and which aren't?

Thanks for your sympathy everyone!!
I already have the Haynes manual and it is ... it is so vague ... based on a total strip down and rebuild my ***!!
I'm sure shipping is ridiculously cheap if you live in the US ... as soon as "international" enters the picture that seems to give them the right to shaft you on the shipping. What bites even more is I have to pay an extra 10% duty when it enters the country. It sure would be great if someone on the board could help me out (as I dont know anyone in the US) ... although excuse my cautiousness .. I have heard of people being ripped off on this board (although I'm sure 99.9% of you are honest citizens).
Cheers
Mike

yeah the helms manual includes allt he service info to get you through the minor (every 7,500), intermediate (every 15,000), and major (every 30,000) mile maintenances along with a bunch of other stuff..

its basically broken down into diff sections (ie.. engine, brake, interior, etc.. etc.. ) has A LOT of pictures and diagrams and lays out the procedures step by step... very good manual IMO.. i only bought the shop/service manual... the owners manual came w/ my car when purchased from the dealer, and i dont intend to do my own body work..

The Helms is the Acura factory manual. I do know that it's expensive to ship items overseas, so I don't see any way around shipping charges. Just go to the local dealer and see if they have the factory manual, which would be the helms manual anyways. As far as cost goes, the Acura Integra Helms manual is way cheaper than my factory Toyota Tacoma manual - $110, for just the body, engine, and some electrical. There are two other manuals for the tacoma - which would come to over $250 all together....The factory Toyota manual is better than the factory Acura (Helms) though, if you can imagine that.

Don't get some one from Autozone... it will pail in comparison to Helms... atleast for Honda/Acura. For the basic stuff one of those would be alright, but for bigger jobs, I wouldn't use anything but Helms. It is worth every penny if you have some big plans for your car.

Best Xmas gift I've gotten.

could anybody help answer this?? I'd also like to know. Also, if anyone can get a shipping quote from australia to maryland... I wouldn't mind ordering an extra helms w/ my order and shipping it for you. Thanks,

I ordered the Toyota tacoma manual from the nearest local Toyota dealer. Also if you look towards the back of the owners manual (or Owners manual supplement) there is information and a form for ordering manuals. The phone number for Toyota Service Publications is 1-800-622-2033. You'll want to at least get the Repair Manual - it's like nearly 3" thick with tons of pictures. There are also seperate Electrical Systems and Automatic Transmission and Transaxle Manuals.

For the Acura's, you really just need the Helms Service/Repair manual - it covers everything you should ever need to know on all car systems - electrical and mechanical.

EDIT: Just measured my Toyota Tacoma manual and it is right at 2", which is 1/2" thicker than my '90 Integra GS Helms manual...
