Default IT tow hook/strap/loop rule

I seem to remember a discussion about SCCA requiring IT cars to have front and rear tow hooks/straps/loops. I just can't remember where it was. Anyone know?

Reason is, because I remember this discussion, I've had it in my mind that I absolutely had to do this before license school, but when I looked in my brand new 2005 GCR, it says they're still optional.

I plan on installing one anyways, but if I can take my time to do it right, rather than running around crazy, just trying to get something in there, I'd rather do it that way.

Any help?

Yeah, I remember Scott saying it, but I thought I had heard it somewhere else, as well.

After double checking the online version, the ITCS states, "Towing eyes per GCR section 17., may be fitted"

Section 17.31 of the GCR, the end of the first paragraph states, "Showroom Stock, Touring, and Improved Touring cars are not required to install towing eyes, but it is highly recommended."

It's not that I don't get it, it's just I heard they were going to require them, but the GCR doesn't reflect this. Anyone got any official info? Is it going to be updated in Fastrack or supp regs?

You may be thinking of NASA. The new NASA rules state that you must have tow eyes. I just got mine yesterday and am trying to figure out how I'm going to mount them right now. I think I'm going to start a new thread (so as not to jack yours (after I search)) asking people to post their pics/experiences with installing these things so that they'll support the weight of the vehicle. As of now, I'm not sure how the hell I'm going to do it.

The SCCA BOD was to vote on mandatory tow hooks in IT,SS,Touring at their Dec 04 meeting. It should be published in the march Fastrack that should be out in a couple of weeks. It was not in the 05 GCR due to the lead time needed to publish the GCR and when the rule was voted on.
