This morning (1/27/05) a friend's ITR, the first one bought in Illinois, was stolen. That makes 3 ITR's stolen in the past 2 days on this forum alone.
For starters... I HATE THIEVES. Secondly, I hate people who buy stolen parts knowingly. Lastly, I'd hate to think someone can buy stolen parts unknowingly. Heck... you might even be buying stolen parts now. Please be a smart shopper and don't support the decay of our hobby, don't support theft.
I just want to get a post started here in the EF forum about the problem of theft because who knows... your car may be next.
Here is the thread concerning the theft:

My car wasn't taken. I was just really bothered by how close to home the theft of my friend's car was. I just wanted to raise awareness of the crime aspect of our hobby.
Sorry.

yea, the thing is how they rope the customers in who are spending money thinking the product is legit, when it really isnt. you have to watch the price, because usually its not so low its a giveaway, but low enough for the buyer to want to buy it. be VERY sespicious of the pricing, and the buyer. if its too good to be real, it usually is.

Indeed... this was the kind of discussion I was looking for. How can we protect ourselves from being the next to get jacked? And how can we we smart shopper and not give a reason for thieves to steal in the first place.
I know I've gone to flea markets when I was younger and thought how cool it was because I might be buying a "hot" radio or something for a low low price. Now that I'm a lil older and a lot wiser I realize that there is a difference between a good deal, and a shady deal.

Everytime I drive my CRX to the mall, I get nervous. Luckily my CRX is really dirty, and also thieves can tell by looking through the window that there is not a single bit of good stereo equipment in it anymore. I removed it for this reason mainly.
This dude I met last year was jumped at the same mall I go to a lot by these 4 ghetto dudes, who said:
"Hey that's a nice car man. We're gonna take it from you." As soon as they said that they socked the dude in his face while he was about to close his driver door. He kicked the door open which knocked that guy on the ground, released the hatch and ran and grabbed his bat since the thieves were on the other side of the car. One of the crooks nailed him in his head but the guy already had the bat in his hands so he turned around and hammered the thief in his ribs. After that they all ran away.
2 weeks ago, something like a dozen Hondas were all hit one night within a couple miles of each other near my house. About 1/3 of the cars were actually stolen completely and stripped. My CRX does not stand out in a crowd so luckily I never really get noticed, but that is going to change once it gets turbo'ed. Because the way it is around here, any cars that are turboed end up as huge targets for the local crooks. And I have met some of these little ******* unfortunately, and they know where I live too. NOT GOOD.
So I am going to have to do some crazy safety measures like pulling out ECU's and stuff pretty quick here. As it is I already carry an anti-theft weapon with me in my CRX (a hella light 16 oz T-ball bat to regulate with).

Same **** about a guy i know 4 blocks behind me! Had his EG taken when his bro didnt come home and park behind him. Someone must have been watching. Kinda scarey tho, it hit VERY close to home. Find out what the R had for security.

Man, see, I dont expect it from the area he was in either. He really was in a nicer area where someone had to have been watchin him for a while.
My car stands out, as shitty, so its its own theft deterrent. I'm in no hurry to paint my flatblack beast nor do i plan to add anything that will draw attention to it. A bunch of my hard earned money's gettin ready get dropped on this and i'll be muttafucc'd if i'ma let some ******* theif take my ****. So if you're a theif and you're readin this board and these posts, remember something. I'm Black. I Will kill you.

yea, see i dont expect it in my area too. but i know a ton of people in my area that get their cars jacked. theres the minor theifs though, little dumbass kids in my neighborhood. after i got done putting the springs on my old car, i left my tools outside while i just drove around the block. came back and only one of my spring compressors was gone. dumbasses.
but yea....i am in no hurry to make my car stand out. eventually ill be going for a JDM gold color, but thats not for a while. my car's interior is stripped from the seats back, and the only hint that its tuned is a drop and my Tein stickers. i have a nice set of rims in my room, awaiting tires (or a trade :D), and i still have my stock steelies on. haha, even my lisence plate cover on the rear says "seattles best : powered by espresso". it came with the car, but i think it makes it the ultimate sleeper :D.

What makes me nervous about buying a motor like that is that if they catch you, they can take your car so your lose out on all that money you spent on the motor plus your car. Get some papers!!! (legit papers, not bill of sale)
Sad part is that there will always be somebody who doesn't care and will buy this stuff.

and people wonder why i never bought an R.... cars disapear in Northern VA as fast as they do in Chicago i'm sure...
Good luck finding it in one peice!

my view on ****.
sad to say if 4 Rs got stoeln in Il they are most likely gonna be USED for racing and not sold. these motors will probably be running in Honda Challenge/NASA/SCCA/IDRC/NHRA guess what.. they all have ITR and K20s swaps they dont check if the motor is legit at all. but what you'll find though is many ITR parts(like seats, interior, rims, suspension) being sold not the swaps. who would want to pay 8-10k for a new ITR motor unbless yopu have sponsership or ALOT of money to blow, hmotors has them for 5-6k and what condition though??, some engine importers have stolen and hot motors, do you think imported motors werent stolen in JAPAN or europe and brought here and bought legitimately. do you think every engine hmotors or any company get papers for every engine or legitamte papers. how are US authorities gonna know that enigne is stolen from japana when they pop the hood. and if it is would you ship it back to japan. whats the difference in stealing in stateside or overseas.
when i get car inspected or worked on they never check engine serial no do i ever get questioned by cops. my motor btw is b16a1 from hmotorsonline.com
think of it this way you go to a NYC corner deli/bodega and buy a soda or condoms that were stoeln from a nyc industrial warehouse/distributor or "fell off a truck" you wont be held responsible. do you know in nyc or possibly majoring cities them ghetto corner stores have stolen goods. as cases and bottles of beer and soda.
so 25% of us h-t member with swaps may have stolen imported swaps that were bought legitimately. and there is no way to know if things are stolen. so i will continue to buy cheap cause its a deal and it seems and sounds legit when it may not be, it nots my problem.

i don't support theives, or like theft. and this thread sucks and should be in the General Discussions forum, it's taken up space in our EF forum.
