civic convertible
hey guys i have a 1993 honda civic LX i think is what it is, and i'm going to have like 800 dollars to spend on pimping it up. i dont really care about body kits and exaust and fast and furious stuff. the engine has 237,000 miles on it, but its still purring like a kitten. transmission is relatively new, as well as most of everything else.
i've always wanted a convertible, is it possible for me to take my civic and turn it into a convertible. just slice off the top and get to it? i know its a lot more intricate than that. but i'd like yalls opinion on how to do it or whether or not i should do it in the first place.
i dont care if it looks that bad, doesnt bother me what other people think of my car, all i know is i'd love to cruise with the "top down screamin out money aint a thang" (probably wont say that)
thanks,
Snuffy

do u plan on putting a top on it or just cutting off the top and making where u cut off finshed? it doesn't matterwhat other people think, but i think it would be cool esp if u could put some kind of top on it, if not i hope u have a daily driver and or a garage

$800 isn't even going to come close to covering the costs of a convertible conversion, and it certainly isn't something you will be able to accomplish yourself.
Can you say RICE?!....but yeah you get on that. Maybe try using some parts from a junk del sol and have yourself a targa top. Who knows, but post some pics when its done.
This is the only vert civic ive ever seen and it definately didn't convince me that it isn't rice. BUT with a good paintjob and some sweet wheels it would be cool to cruise in, who cares if its rice anyways, its your car dude.
I remember seeing an orange civic that was on the cover of an audio magazine about two years ago. It had a suicide trunk, carpet dash, and it was convertible.
ok the roof is a major part of the support of the car. you take that away and the car will fold in half.
so just cutting the top off, stupid
but if you do it the right way and pay someone to install all the neccesary supports (basically a frame) then it wont be a bad idea
JUST MAKE SURE IT IS DONE CORRECTLY

Do it. I would like to see how it come out. Not my style but what ever float your boat. Most of there H-T guys are all about JDM. And if they see something they don't like, its automatic rice to them.
On the public access channel in RI they were showin this car show and veryhightech.com or whatever their name was had a convertible civic, chech out their site and look through the gallery
it is possible to convert, but it will not be cheap im sure. with enough bondo maybe, but remeber about all your electronics and everything, and the fact that this will affect the structure of the car, making it unsafe, or listed as unsafe by any insurance company, as its untested. just if you do it, make sure its done properly, by experts and people who know geometry, physics, and car mods so that it can be done as safely and high quality as possible.
