ITR muffler - restrictive? does it fit?
How good is the performance of a Type R muffler? Would it lose alot of performance over a straight though 2.5" muffler?
My ES Tuning muffler is getting annoying and Im considering a ITR muffler for my '97 Civic...would it be a direct bolt on?

I don't think it will be a direct bolt up. Not 100% sure though.
I would find something more straight through design. The ITR stock muffler is better than most stock mufflers...but still restrictive IMO.

Someone local is selling one, I think Ill pick it up and dyno it. If it only loses a couple HP over the ES muffler...it will be worth it. Im way way WAY tired of my muffler.
I want something quiet...like stock quiet.

you should go for it. I know what itr muffler you are talking about it's like $100 or something. I imagine you could get it to fit and it will be much quieter maybe a little restrictive. Or buy a 22in resonator from magnaflow at midas or from SMSP on this board, that might help also with the ES.
It fits on a coupe fine. You've gotta extend it like 2 or 3 inches, and thats all.
Not sure how restrictive it is compared to a straight-thru muffler, but I made 184/130 @ the wheels w/ stock exhaust, dc jdm header and toda spec A cams.

do you have a cat and a resonator in placre now? eliminating either (or both) will make your **** loud. slapping the itr muffler on is just a matter of running to the muffler shop and getting it welded on. $50 procedur.

yup,i would. removing the cat makes a hell of a difference in sound levels. just hit up ben@importparts.com for a 2.5" carsound cat for $99,bring it to muffler shop and theyll weld in the o2 sensor and all. should be $50-$60.
this will quite things up alot!

SMSP's Carsound deal is a direct bolt-on, if I'm not mistaken. The $99 price is probably cat only - you'll still have to get it welded to fit.

I was more than surprised.
yes that is true, but taking it to the muffler shop isnt really that much of a biggee...$40-$60
unless of course you like doing it yourself,in that case i would get the one from smsp.

I've seen pics of it done on a 99 Si where the tip was extended an extra 2" so it would meet the edge of the bumper. (cut off stock tip, weld in 2" long piece of pipe, re-weld stock tip) It looked OK. Very stealthy.
