Why most of the H-T guys don't like 17" rims? Planing to buy rims for my 00 civic.
I am planing to buy 17" roja formula 5. they are light wight rims (14.5 lb). I would go for 16" because tires will be cheaper then 17". But Roja formula 5 don't come in 16".
Now I want to know why most of the guys in H-T don't like 17" rims?

some reasons you're going to hear...
heavy, heavier rotational mass
too big for the car
not jdm
if you like them, thats all that matters.
14.5 lbs for a 17" rim is pretty light though.

USUALLY they are big and heavy.
Plus civic wheel-wells are small... and personally I think anything over 16in looks stupid.
But its just MY opinion.
edit- He beat me to it ^^^

I miss my 17's that i had. they were nice, and light. I try to get them back almost once amonth but the guy wont budge. As far as 17 inch rims get them if you like them, as stated above. Who cares if its not JDM. and as far as it being heavy, and has more rotational mas, who cares, cause the bigger the rim the better the traction, and the more ground you cover over the long run. also if you have enough hp then you wont have to worry bout the cons to haveing big rims.
you may also find your speed out of cal slightly due to a larger rolling radius. however if you keep the same rolling radius by using a lower sidewall, your ride quality will suffer.... remember you tire acts as part of teh suspension too
plus...15" looks the best....16 is ok but im not sure about the availabiliity of tires...being a 15" guy i know nothing on the subject butim sure there is a tire issue

I think 16" rims are perfact size for civic and I don't like the way civic looks in 14" and 15".
You guys don't like 17" rims just because they look too big and most of them are heavy, than I don't really care cause I don't got any choice. Since Formula5 comes in 17" only but they 14.5 lb. But Is there any other reason?

that is completly false. you can find tires for 17's brand new for around 70-80 bucks, and also those are Kumhos. Tires for 15, and 16's are about the same., there is only a 5-10 dollar difference depending on brand, and rating.

For the most-part, its just a personal preference. If you want the wheels... and thats all they come in. Then there you go.

I don't even know why you asked this question. You obviously already made up your mind that you want 17s.
It's your car, put whatever you want on it. Don't do something just cause that's the ht's way.

I just wanted to know if 17" would make my car slower and other opinion. My car is auto and slow so I don't want to make it more slower.

It doesnt matter how light the rim is, if it is 17" and weighs 14.5 lbs, it does not matter. The point is that you have more mass FURTHER from the center of the rotating axle.
For a civic I would go not larger than a 15" wheel, maybe 16". Get some clean rotas or something.

17" is too big for a civic, not to mention you dont have thick enough rubber for everyday driving!!
just wait till you feel the way your car handles over ptohole, bumps, crack in the road you'll wish you went with a smaller rim size. Your car's gonna feel like a jackhammer. Why pay more money to make your car ride like ****. just my opinion
