Short ram or CAI
I have a dseries and I have a short ram........Im really happy with it, it works cool and sounds great..But this guys is tryin 2 get me 2 go cold air.......I mean is it worth it 4 me 2 shell out another 200 for an AEM CAI or jus replace my filter cuz its gettin dirty
You don't need to replace the filter, just buy the cleaning solution and it will be good as new. If you want cold air, but dont want to fish out 200$, just ghetto rig a ram air from ur bumper to the filter..i did this on my 4 door LX when I had short ram...piping was always cold. Like this:

thats the worst ghetto cai ive ever saw thatll barely to none make any diff, make sure if you go cai you get the water bypass valve, also cai is deff worth the money caus eits not as loud and you get more top end power as well as the torque that you would with the short ram.

doesnt make it worth 200 bucks more...

this has been covered over and over, if u drive around a lot of water, dont get cold air inless u want to suck up water, and short ram in nice, if u can bring in air from outside, but that rig on that 4 door was kinda ghetto, i bet u could do it a little bit nicer and get a bit more air, but he's got the idea. AND!! dont ever spend 200 dollars on a AEM cold air intake, not worth the money, just get an ebay intake tube and a nice k&n air filter or stock tubing with a drop in k&n air filter.

sounds about right
right now, im in the process of trying out the RADICAL!! LOUD j's racing intake,
So far i think it pulls harder than my short ram APC CRAPO and has better throttle responce.

i got an Injen cai and it does great. i got a cai insted of short ram cause of the heat in the engine compartment. they do try to screw you pretty hard on the cai but they do work good, get an air bypass valve if you want i don't have one and have gone threw some deep water and havent any problems but thats your choice i should prolly put one on mine. but you can also get some other pipe extensions to run to the bumper to make your short ram a cai. and as for the ghetto rig that other car omg thats some funny **** you prolly go so much air turbulance in that pipe and it hardly cover your filter. hay that was a good idea
Just get a cheap one off of ebay. No matter how much you spend on an intake of whatever brand, you aren't going to get much out of it. People seem to think they free up so much power but I bet you do real life dyno testing and you gain less than 5 horses.
Here is the one I got of ebay a couple years ago. Less than $50 shipped.

I prefer short ram for honda's. People are going to claim that cold air is better for mid range torque, seems true, but I drive a honda that is a dog before 5700rpm, might as well stick with what the designers intended, high end hp.

the odds of actually sucking up water are slim, water is heavy and you would have to be WOT in a foot deap of water to cover the whole intake to damage the engine. I have a CAI and it is fine, i live in jersey and get hella rain and no problem. Just drive safe and stay away from puddels and if you find let your foot off the gas.

I love it when everyone says this.....
As long as you don't completely submerge the filter, you'll be ok. If you are driving your honda somewhere your filter will get submerged, its your own fault.
I've had my CAI for almost 2 year in Oregon rainy weather and never had a problem.

TPRMAG.COM........look at the intake section where they test a bunch of intakes......but in my opinion, the faster my engine can suck in some air, the better.....hope this helps
the only people i have ever seen hydrolocking their motor are those who have taken out the fender lining, short ram vs. cold air intake will be argued upon forever, but it comes down to money, short ram=10 bucks (2.5 inch Aluminum Bend with stock air box) or CAI=50-300 depending. Go with a stock airbox with new piping and get rid of the resonator and all that crap in the fender/bumper, quiet and cheap good performance.
Only reason why you would need an AEM or INJEN intake is for the CARB certification. Thats all. Get a cheap ebay intake with a K&N filter and youre set.
