Default How to remove finish off wheels?

I have a set of wheels that are originally white with a blue lip.. painted from the manufacturer. I tried taking off the paint with paint remover but it was really hard.. I mean I could do it, but it would just take a lot of work. I was wondering if there is an easier way to take off the finish? I've heard of sand blasting but I'm not really sure what that is. Anyone have any ideas?

Sandblasting is using very small beads to abrasively remove paint, corrosion & etc... If you sandblast you then have to repaint or powdercoat. I searched sandblasting in San Jose.

I had my Valve-Cover sandblasted on my Rex, before I re-painted it.
Looked pretty-sexy all naked-like.

If you want to leave naked you need to but some type of sealer or finish otherwise mad corrosion.

little hand held sander with 400 -600 grit.

then hand sand with something alot higher.

use wheel primer and it will cover and blemishes. takes about 20 min a wheel.

platinum.

Are they painted or powdercoated? I was told by someone that paint is sandblast-able, but with powdercoat removal, it needs to be bead blasted (glass beads) because the sand blasting doesnt remove the powder, it just kind of burns it? Dont quote me though.

If just paint, try aircraft remover. My bro spent hours trying to hand sand his entire valve cover down. I then bought him a jug of aircraft stripper and he layed it down, and wiped it off a while later, paint came right off, took him all of 20 minutes to do with the aircraft stripper what took him hours with sandpaper.

You could always have them acid dipped. It's cheaper and easier, but there's not alot of places around that'll do it.

Already tried the aircraft remover/paint stripper thing. TOO much work for me. These rims are multispoked and have really tight spots near the lip.

Acid dip... hmm can you give me anymore info?

Oh yea the wheels are Racing Sparco NSII. It looks painted from factory.. I'm not sure though. Don't know how powdercoated rims look. Also don't most manufacturers paint their rims? I mean the paint did come off with aircraft stripper..

well sandblasting is really nice and easy. But i have heard of a the acid dipping to, but sounds more difficult and expensive than sandblasting.
