AWD CRX Question
I heard some of the 88-91 Civic Wagons or somethin came with AWD is this true? If so can it bolt into a civic. Anyone know of a writeup for AWD on a CRX or EG civic? Some please post some pics of the drivetrain and transfer case. thanks

Yeah, the wagons came with si engines and rt4wd. I have one. It also has a 6 speed tranny: 1-5 (econo tall gearing) and SL, super low for snow and ice.
Neither the tranny nor the rt4wd are performance oriented. They are meant for traction in bad weather. The 4wd is like 90% front, 10% rear most of the time. If the the fronts start slipping the rears kick in more.
The axles in the rear are pinner. I boosted my wagon, and have yet to try a 4 wheel burnout, cuz I'm afraid they'll shear off.
In retrospect, I wish I had researched the honda rt4wd more, before I started making it a project car.
You can swap the tranny over, but it's not painless. Alot of cutting and welding. You need different mounts.
Turbowagonman put the rt4wd into a 2wd wagon. He has a brief how-to on his site:

One mo' thing. Wagon's wheelbase is 2" longer than other ef's, so you'd have to shorten the drive shaft.
Not an easy project.
It really seems like swapping a CRV rt4wd would be the same amount of custom work.
Honestly, I would say if you want awd, get a subaru or an audi.

Everyyear wagon had the option of RT4wd. The 84-87 models had a solid rear axle.
The 88-91 models have same style suspension as other efs, just the trailing arms are a little longer, and the rear struts have lower spring perchs and longer, stiffer springs.
The tranny has bigger axles and gears than any other d-series. They came with power steering. 1.6 pgmfi Si engine. 14"s. Same size brakes as Si's. Same cluster and steering wheel as Si, too.
You can tell the 4wd from the 2wd at a glance, cuz the 4wd's color matched bumpers, not black. They also have a big RT4WD logo on the side.
