Default Which cat to use for JDM ITR header?

I was thinking since on my 94 gsr I only have one o2 sensor that connects to the stock cat and the JDM ITR header has an 02 bung> can I connect the o2 sensor to the the o2 bung on the header and use a universal cat that doens't have any o2 bungs on it?? since it seems to be cheaper that way to purchase a cat without an o2 bung...

The primary 02 in the header is more important. You should only need that one being an OBD1 car and that one should be in the header regardless, before the catalytic convertor. The rear 02 is only on OBD2 cars, and even then there are ways to bypass it.

I guess I am asking what kind of cat are people who are running a 94 gsr (OB1) with JDM ITR header are using? ones with an o2 bung or no o2 bung (so they use the 02 bung in the header).. hope that clears something up.. or just confuses things more

Get yourself a Carsound cat. IM user "SMSP" with your application and he will help you out in choosing the correct cat.

Some people throw CEL and sone don't. I did. Convert your car to OBD1 or you can just get a SMSP cat and have no CEL (Check Engine Light)

Original poster already is OBD1

Check Jeg's (or maybe Summit) for a universal 2.5" cat - they don't have O2 bungs. They used to be dirt cheap as well, not sure how much they are now.

Although my GSR is OBD-II, I'm running the JDM header to OEM cat with custom welding. I was originally running the JDM header to SMSP 2.5" custom carsound cat but couldn't pass smog with that setup. I had an exhaust shop cut the carsound cat right after the donut gasket to 2.5" inlet and weld on the OEM cat...that way, no problems with passing Cali smog emissions. Sound nice, a lil backpressure, but passed smog!

If you decide to go the test pipe route, buy the piping and flanges from JC Whitney and have someone weld them together.

so I can use a universal high flow cat (those that doesn't have an o2 bung) that is 2.5" and I'll just plug the o2 sensor into the header???
