not a zc
I am unsure whether d16a1 was DOHC or not, but what I do know is they are not the same. d16a1 only has 100hp. DOHC ZC has 130 HP and comes from japan. Do not get the d16a1, its not really worth it.

In order to pull this one off, a custom driver side bracket would be required.

there are no JDM D16A1 engines - the JDM engines in the Integra are ZCs which are essentially the same as the D16A1 with different cams, different pistons on brown top - 86-87 JDM ZC had brown valve cover and vacuum advance ignition - 88-89 JDM ZC had balck valve cover and electronic advance ignition - the JDM Integra engines bolt right into 1g CRX and 3g Civic, using USDM 86-89 Integra transmission, axles, knuckles/hubs and shift linkage - they do not bolt into 2g CRX or 4g Civic, mainly because they have different mounts and use a totally different transmission - they use the 86-89 Integra transmission - the ZC that bolts into the 2g CRX and 4g Civic is black valve cover from JDM CRX/Civic Si - it is a completely different engine from the Integra ZCs and the D16A1 - shares some internal parts, but it is mostly different - has same mounts and a version of the same transmission as the 2g CRX and 4g Civic

Known widely as a "Brown top ZC" Only fits the 84-87* chassis Civic/Crxs' and makes approximately 125ps. - Darrell

125ps, isnt that about 120-123 HP? Correct me if Im wrong. From everything I have ever read on this motor (and yes it is a USDM Teg Motor) made 112hp, not 125. Anyone know this for sure?
It does NOT bolt into any 4th gens, but is a good replacment in the 3rd Gen vehicles.

The 88-89 USDM D16A1 (blacktop, elec. advance) makes 118hp. They ARE NOT the same as most of the dohc JDM ZC engines and they DO NOT easily swap into 88+ civics/crxs!

The 88-89 are black tops and dont bolt up in the 4th gen civics. in order for them to work your gonna have to remove the power steering bracket.
other than that the brown tops are the ones that drop into the 3rd gen civics.
BTW you can boost the black or brown tops and it wont matter that they only have 100 HP

The d16a1 isnt worth the time, effort and money to put in to the 88-91 chassis..
Dont get me wrong ..if I lived in bumfuck, alabama and no one lives around me for miles and I got the d16a1 for free and I had a civic shell,,I would try to put it in the car ..
