What kind of tach? Cluster, or Aftermarket Autometer, etc? Make sure the tach is receiving a good signal. Mine was slightly loose, and it didn't register. Try even driving the car around for a little while, reving the engine, etc, and see if that initiates the tach; this actually happened to me.
where would i check for a loose connection? its the stock ex cluster by the way, we tried hard wiring a aftermarket autometer tach in as well, its just not receiving a signal for some reason
From what I've learned your tach gets it's signals from inside the Distributor. I fixed my Tach problem by attaching a wire that fell off the internaly from the ignitor coil (distributor). Take your cap off, rotor and dust cover and check your wiring.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.

i had a problem with my tach with my b16b where it would bounce around... in the end i had a loose screw on the coil if i recall just tighten up all the screws you see in your dizzy.
