That is cute...

I could make a politically incorrect comment about Asian drivers in the top rungs of motorsports, but I'll refrain.

dang, they sure start 'em young now! kids now are SO lucky. but of course, in the last generation's eyes, we're lucky too. i certainly can't really complain... if i have my ways i'm going to make my nephew a world class driver.

I thought it was really cute at first and thought maybe I was doing my 4 year old son a disservice by not starting him on the XBox until about 6 months ago. I have a wheel and pedals but don't like them, maybe I should get out my welder and make a frame to properly mount the wheel and pedals with to make it more car like.

The more I watch it though, cute as it is, I don't beleive it and cry foul. This little guy's general steering is in the right vicinity of the turns but look how much he is making big counter steering, sawing at the wheel motions especially in mid-corners and the driving effect is on the screen is dead smooth and hitting track outs, etc. with no swerving, correcting, etc. Unless the controls are hugely numbed down to the point that the computer can completely ignore lots of sawing at the wheel, I think there is something going on behind the scenes on this one. Cute but I don't beleive it...

Maybe it's a 70's tv show chase scene? I seem to remember a lot of wheel sawing on all those shows back then, yeehaw.

I don't think there is really foul play going on but I do think the controls have been numbed...

If you watch in the very beginning, the kid steers slightly left and the car drifts left.

I watched it a few times, I think its the real deal. That steering wheel is LOUD... interesting...

I also believe that its real. It looks to me like the wheel is the first Logitech wheel. I have the latest offering right now, and, Ill tell you, you can saw at the wheel a good bit without having much effect on the car.

At any rate, excellent video!

its a video game (GT no less, which isnt too realistic) with a wheel, so its not like a real car. most of those wheels also have a dead zone in the middle

OK, maybe it is legit but I seem to recall the wheel for my X-Box (one year old and I dont use it much) is much more responsive than that but maybe they have the sensativity turned down. The little guy was definately driving in the right general direction (and kudos to any 2-3 year who can) but it sure seemed like there was a pretty big disconnect between his actual wheel motions and the smoothness of the car.

Yeah, the footwork really tripped me out. Maybe vehicle dynamics is a lot more intuitive than we think? It is the GT simulator though.

Yeah but they were in the middle of the track. I know my 4 year old loves car games and really likes hitting things. He laughs hysterically when he mows down crowds of people in a taxi crashing game. First you get them to drive, then you teach them to drive well.

My sarcasm detector is off, apologies in advance...

The cones were "the line". It's training. You get a gold metal if you get around the track in a certain time, which I almost never seem to do in GT.

one possible reason why that wheel doesn't look as 'sensitive' as some others you may have seen in video games is because the logitech wheels has 900 degrees of rotation, rather then 180 degrees like most.

Yeah, the steering is not really reponsive, but for someone who's probably 3-4 years old that countersteers when the car is oversteering and getting a Gold Medal is very impressive.

Force feedback wheels have motors in them, correct? I could see how it's possible that it could be a recorded sequence of movements or remotely controlled by another wheel off screen.

I'm not sure if this is more or less likely than a toddler actually driving the game, but it's certainly possible.

Maybe I am too old but I keep my 4 year old around as my interpreter, he also opens medicine bottle for me too We have half a dozen decent driving games (several rally, NFS Underground, TOCAII, SRS, etc.) but not that one. I need to make a fixed seat, pedals and wheels contraption as I don't have a good way to mount my wheel or keep the pedal box from sliding around on the carpet so it is just wasier to use the normal hand controller.

It's not that I "don't get izzle" but that I choose not speak it. Please note the difference.
