Which one is cheaper? A Yamaha Virago 250. 1k will grant you a used cruiser style 250 that gets 75 mpg. The downside? Top speed of 73 mph for your average rider.

This has got to be the most generalized question I've ran across here on the Motorcycle forum.
Read my sig. Otherwise give us some more info as to what you want and your riding experience. That way we can offer an intelligent suggestion.

I'll make an exception to the lack of completion with this sentence, and assume that you WANT one that could put out 150.
Yeah, good luck with that.
The Virago puts out 15.0 hp on a warm day.

I'll break it down a little for you.
High HP = High Cost + High Insurance + High Skill Needed to Ride without Dying + Sporty seating position
Since you mentioned long distances -
Sporty Seating position + Long distances = Lack of left ******** + Kidney Cramps.

every keeps telling me a sport bike is a bad cruiser bike but i disagree. You sit in a position were you work your back and arms. and guess what?! you get use to it. A sport bike is not a bad Cruise bike. now donkey dude, I've seen you make a lot of posts on here, so im not going to dub you idiot but you don't need 150hp to do 160

Don't know about Cali.
But for AL, the license test is $10, MSF is $180 for the beginner course.
Of course, we don't have a skills test, so it's going to be more for you.

For new riders you generally wanna stay under 600cc. Which in turn means less than about 100hp. I'd recommend something with about 60~100hp for beginners. Most sportbike 600's will put out roughly 95~110hp.
If you want a new sporty bike I suggest the Suzuki GS500F, Ducati Monster 620 Dark, Kawasaki Ninja 500R, Suzuki SV650, Suzuki SV650S, Honda 599, Honda CBR600F4i.
If you want a low powered beginner bike Kawasaki Ninja 250R
If you're beginning and don't plan on keeping the 1st bike for long, get a used one. There's a lot of guys on here selling their bikes. Change your signature under My Profile and list that you WTB a bike and for how much.
BTW, on a bike, you don't need a lot of hp to have fun.
Its all about refining your skill.

I am tired of these. 'Hey... will you guys, that I have never met, please tell me which Motorcycle I should go out and finance at 18% compounded interest rate? Please keep in mind that if my mommy finds out, I will be up ***** creek, now that my new girlfriend is pregnant . I want to be able to do 165 mph on the local freeway during rush hour. I only weight 130 lbs and will need insurance for a 17 year old with a DUI. I want to be the next Rodney Mullen of the stuntbike world so's my peep's give's me prop's. That way my daddy will respect me, and if he doesn't F' him and his establishment 9-5 because that is what all the cool people say!"

I had a 91 Katana 750 and I could ride it forever and it had good power, was a lotta fun. I would recommend one of those . Katana 600 or Cbr 600 are probably good. 900RR is only fun for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs before having to stretch. Good luck and I hope everyone who rides makes back home safe. I think about the risks every day when I'm riddin' or not, or when I see others.
