Need details about how to prep a car before a paint job
Hi, I plan on getting a paint job soon and I want to do the prep work myself. I'm not sure what exactly to do and what strength sand paper to buy. Can someone tell me what exactly to do or show me to a website that explains everything. Thanks!
i used 180 grit and sanded till no more clear coat sand to metal where u needa bondo things up. make sure you sand every spot. after your done clean it with soapy water.
take off all trim and plastic possible. go panel by panel. use 360 grit sandpaper and a 6" DA, DA the whole panel until it gets nice and dull, (you dont have to go crazy) and the imperfections or small indentations will literally stick out because they are too low to be grabbed by the DA..
this way everything will be dull because you just sanded it but the imperfections will still have clear on them.
Then fill the imperfections and move onto the next panel

Barns and Noble, and several other "big branch" book stores have extensive how-to's for autobody painting and repair. Take a note book, a pen, and a few hours...write it down and don't by the book. Or buy it if you can afford it.
