Short video of almost losing it at the track...
about 11 guys and 1 lady rented out SMMP on Monday.
It was mostly a German collection, with one "pure" Japanese car. There were 6 Porsches (944, 964, 2 993, 996, Boxster S), 2 other german roadsters (Benz CLK Compressor? & Audi TT vert), 2 brits (2 111s Elises) and me... in my CRX.
Yep, the only FWD car... again.
anyways, we had timers out and I was turning a decent 1:57.xxx around the course (John Morris in his SR3 radical turns 1:47s?).
My friend Fabrizio corded a few tyres on his 944 and I let him take my car out for a session. I had my camera turned on facing forward, while another friend, Jim, was in his Elise with his camera facing rearward.
Unfortunately, my camera died on the first lap, turn 4. eek.
His camera was on the entire time. Both drivers are exceptional. Jim has managed to turn 1:50s in his '03 996 x-50, his sport packaged Elise has turned 1:55s.
Fabrizio has turned 2:00s in his stock MR2, his relatively stock 944 matched that.
During lap 8 or 9, Fabrizio pushed it a bit too hard into turn 7 (2nd gear, hard braking into a long straight) and got it a bit loose. Here's the video, from the camera mounted on the elise:
2megs - 15secs
Nothing was damaged (luckily, cause runoff on SMMP blows chunks), he drove the car straight off, rather than fighting it.
Thought it'd be interesting to share. Enjoy.
