looking for a personal mechanic. HELP!!!!
I've been looking around for a mechanic that I can trust w/ my car...
see... i've been to
M1... ripped me off and said it was my fault.
AK1... they took every thing out of my pockets even the lint! and then stole my stereo and claimed that it wasn't covered by insurance
JPR... was good... but kinda expensive... and a little far
hookups... almost went to them but charged my an arm and a leg for a little fix
161822... That shop does a good job... but its a second job/hobby shop... who're only there between the hours of 8pm and 12pm... and sometimes not even... so the guys kinda flaky...
if you live in the 909/626 border area... help me out... I can work on my own car but I dont have the tools and the indepth knowledge... I'll want to pay for work but since there is so much **** that has to be done I dont want to end up spending 10 grand to get my LS motor just running right and looking decent.

I didn't know how to change oil a few years ago. Since then I have:
rebuilt D series
rebuilt B series
body repair on the REX
prepped and painted my REX
turbo'd a D
clutches- Honda and Nissan
Suspension on just about everything
etc etc etc....
I've taught myself with very little. I say get a Craftsman 151 piece and a Helms. You may need a few tools here and there... but in the long run you will be much happier.

details that's missing here... ... and i dont want to go buying 8 honda books at a bill each.
and tools... it will take atleast 2 grand to get my tools in order and ... then ... ill have to leave my tools in my room because my bro has lost about 250 worth of tools already.
so .. and to top it all off... i destroyed my garage door w/ a circulating saw! because it wasnt working any more. so i cant keep tools there until I get a new door! lol...
so... yea... right now all i need is a place i can trust

You need to send a PM to Honda-Tech member "GRAND CIVIC". He is a great mechanic and he is in the 626/323 area, he knows how to work on Hondas, he even has a 90 Si himself.
since were on this topic, i didnt know much about hondas until i about 6 months ago when i bought my car and started comming on this site everyday.Since then i did a obd1 conversion ,16y8 swap by my self(people helped me lift the engine in). And learned a great deal about sohc vtec ,and a lil bout dohc vtec.plus all the minor stuff like axle removal, oil change or clutch replacement.

in the SF bay area theres a few...
off the top of my head is:
red zone performance - san jose
racetune - hayward
rising sun motorsports - south city (i think)
rising sun hasnt been around that long. but i have friends who have had their cars worked on at the other two places. their cars havent blown up yet so i guess those shops are okay...
but nothing compares to doing it yourself. it might take a little longer but you save ALOT of money and you have that security of knowing that its been done right. if you can spare the down-time, gather a few friends who know what they're doing, buy them food everytime they're there, and get crackin!

HighEnd is kinda far from you, but Mike Thomas is a very competant guy and a good buddy of mine. Has helped me get the prices I want on quality parts and can find a hookup or connection on just about anything. Great guy with a great shop. - Darrell
