Just bought a 98 Hatch! couple of questions??
Here it goes! - Whats this whole obd2 thing all about??? - Does the dx model have some sort of vtec or somthing(wires are on the bottom and ive heard they have some fuel econmy type vtec) - In any case, my hatch is slow and feels really restricted - Just wondering if that obd2 has anything to do with it - I will be doing a b16 sawp into it because i cannot deal with this kinda platform to race out - but love the car sweet body
i am not too familiar with the whole OBD thing but it gots somin to do with emissions. some of theses guys in here should know more detials about OBD.....
your car feels slow because it is slow.
The DX doesn't have vtec. The HX has vtec-e which doesn't lift all the valves to save gas. The EX is the one with the vtec. You can swap your head out for a vtec one, but if your gonna drop in a B then don't waste the time.

OBD is the On Board Diagnostics. your car, since its 96-98, is OBD-II. your problem isn't the OBD its just that single cam thats sitting in your engine bay.
ON BOARD DIAGNOSTICS TWO ther is an O2 sensor in the cat and one in the header that does not make car slow it is because you have a 1.6 liter non vtec single cam but it sounds like your going to fix that well good luck
OBD2 is Honda's new emissions controller and the reason why some aftermarket companys are scared about them is that the OBD2 is rumored to contact the Emissions Departmens about any sort of changes that effects the emissions on your car. I also heard that the OBD2 restricts your engine from gaining HP levels you want. But don't worry about the OBD2 if your gonna swap in a B16A, then again you might need to swap in a motor newer that your 98 Hatch becuase law prohibits engine swaps that are older than your year vehicle. But check with your state laws. You could get the 99' Si B16A and swap out the OBD2 Controlled ECU for the JDM B16A ECU.
yeah the guys above are all right about it just being slow because its just slow, but i suggest you do some more reading and research before you just jump right in for the swap, oh and i highly recommend you get an OBDII swap, makes things much easier.
