Default XM Radio

Recently ( well for the past couple months ) i have been getting really sick of all the old CD's i have in my accord wagon and was thinking about getting XM radio. I have not talked to anybody who has it and was just wondering what you ppl think about it? Post some fav. radio stations and why you LIKE or DISLIKE XM radio.

I have had it for a couple of years now.

Warning!

You will hate.... absolutely hate driving in a vehicle that doesn't have it after you get XM. I love it! I tried to tune in the normal FM station the other day to listen to the Eagle game and got mostly static. Drove me crazy! Love the sound and quality I get with it. Many, many channels to choose from. You will be hooked!

I prefer Sirius personally, and I used to sell mostly XM (go figure!) It just seems to have better channels of the type of music I like, football games (awesome!) and the DJ's don't come on as often with identification.

If you ever have any questions regarding satellite radio and want some no B/S answers, feel free to pm me anytime.

I wasnt impressed (got a free 3 month trial with new car). It just doesnt quite seem worth the unit + $10 a month unless your going on long road trips, in which case my cd's will do. Its more of the same crap you still can hear on the regular old radio with the exception of some news and sport channels.

sirius > xm

do yourself a favor and TRIAL STREAM both companies online before you buy....i guarantee you'll go with Sirius because of the music variety (NO commercials too)

it's only 2 dollars more a month

Same here. I even bought an extra XM reciever for work just because I couldn't stand the commercials and static of regular broadcast radio.

We have Sirius at work and I'm not digging it as much as I thought I would. I thought satellite radio would play a more diverse playlist, but so far on every station we've tried it's been the same songs over and over and over again.

The benefit of it is that since there are no commercials, then you can switch the station and always have music accessible.

I listen to Fox news and the Comedy channels too. XM>Sirius plus it is cheaper. We got O and A. Sirius has to wait another year for Stern

I like sirius better than XM, but am cancelling my service before it renews again. Reason? Some stations/songs are encoded at a low bitrate where you can actually hear the artifacts when listening carefully. Quality does not compare to CD, but there is no static. Another annoying problem in the city is that signal drops temporarily when passing under bridges or tunnels.

On the other hand, there are many stations of different varieties to flip through, and it is especially great during extended trips across the states.

Good luck with your choice!

At work we have both. I've been an XM guy myself... some of the other co-workers were Sirius. The what they call "good channels" on Sirius (octane etc)... they are sick of. They complain they play the same songs over and over every hour. Granted even radio stations do that because they are the "hot" songs.

Between the two you get pretty much the same music and such.

The BIGGEST thing XM has that sirius does not is the NavTraffic. If you have a Pioneer AVIC-N2 and the Pioneer XM tuner box, or if you have an Alpine Ai-Net screen and the DVD based Nav unit (with built in XM tuner)... well you're in for a great time if you drive alot. The XM signal has an imbedded data stream that does Traffic info... sorta like the 12 channels where they break down traffic and weather by city. The NavTraffic though will actually overlay any delays, traffic jams, accidents, etc, over your GPS navigation. So if you're driving along and there's some traffic jam up ahead, your Nav display will show this and can guide you on how to get around the jam up. Not bad. Now it's just the question of "who's going to do video first" lol.

Oh, and that merger between XM and Sirius.. if it does in the end end up being true.. would be sorta cool. Think of what they could do with all that shared bandwidth!

my girlfriend has XM (which i bought for her as a gift) in her new 04 accord, and we both love it! I think $10 a month is very cheap for pure listening enjoyment 24/7, you hardly ever have to deal with annoying *** commercials and they play some good **** that you never hear on the radio. She has the SkyFi Delphi system with the fm modulator, i didn't really like to fm modulate at first because its probably not as clear and an external input, but i hardly notice a difference.. two for XM in my books

I have XM, and it is great.

What commercials are you guys talking about? All the channels I listen to, there aren't any commercials so far that I've heard... I like Channel 9, 20, 62 (or 64), can't remember, 53, 90,.. There's a LOT more to list!

I don't know why Howard Stern would help you make your decision between XM and Sirius. I'm not sure how long Sirius will last, Howard Stern will just prolong the inevitable. Sirius is going down!! Anyways, I read somewhere, that Sirius and ((( XM ))) might be working out a merger or something.. That would be cool.

I also agree, when you get in a car that doesn't have XM, you'll go insane with the regular crappy radio and all their commercials and mainstream music.

I had XM for one year because it was stock in my chevy truck from the factory. That **** just got tossed. XM is not for me!! If you are 50 years old it's okay, because after switching to sirius, I havent loaded the first cd in the cd player, and I've had it for one month now. Alpine CDA-9835 with the SIR-ALP1 Sirius adaptor. there are so many better channels on sirius. There are about 8 channels that play new rap, hip-hop, or r&b (whatever that type of music is called nowadays), and some VERY good alternative and rock stations. Sirius is only a few dollars more, but worth every penny.

I think what would be a great idea for those companies would be if they released a hand held device that subscirbers could use and still get their music, if they would, id for sure get it. I dont want to now because I dont go on long enough trips, just 20 minutes or so, when im going someplace and i dont just go out and drive around enough, but my job... I put up bread at stores which is a very boring job, and mp3 players cost so much, and I just get so tired of listening to the same things over and over... But if I were you, Id try to get Sirius, as Ive heard better things about it.
