Default Si 5th loss?

I tried to search this but the content must be gone, and my thread about my tranny is gone i think?

anyway . .

the other night i was comming home from a gig and i am on the 51 NB and i am gliding along about 100mph and the car shoots out of 5th into N, i was like uhhhh ooops, maybe i hit it? i put it back in 5th and it stays for about a minute and does the same, so i slow to 60 in nutral and **** to 4th, no problems there?

it wont stay in 5th? i know i have tranny problems, but this is nuts?
i am not gonna ask how to fix it, because i am in no way a mechanic,
can yall tell me how much a new tranny is gonna run me

Bell Honda in Phx stated $1100 for refab or $2200 for new, YIKES! i honestly was not going to keep the car past the loan (you want it? $9k)

but . . is that about the right price for a tranny? hey . . i love my car, but unless i am going to go all the way a new tranny is going to start a project i might as well finish?

so . . as i have asked before . .

i got a b16a2, should i just get a CTR tranny or opt for a ITR tranny?

Crazy? Um, no, that's the price.

$1100 is actually a rather good deal for a short-geared B-series transmission refurbished by Honda.

i thought that was a bit high for a refab, but i went to 2 independent shops and they were going to charge the same, i am just going to goto the Honda salvage we have here in phoenix and find one . .

but again if i am gonna do this i am gonna search for an ITR tranny, only question is parts, cuz i know it wont just link up, but thats what search is for right?

thank though

I wouldn't go replacing it with out it being inspected first...

I had a similar problem where it popped out of 5th and wouldn't go back in... It was just a linkage problem... that ended up solving itself...

My guess is something got caught in the linkage then freed itself.

check linkage
if linkage is okay then it's a shift fork problem, do you rest your hand on the shifter when cruising?

Probably. Is there even any fluid left in it?

AFAIK, you can get new ITR transmissions much cheaper from Len at Baranco Acura. Something like $1800 + shipping IIRC.

Just PM user len and ask him about an ITR transmission.

He posted this thread back in early November. Don't know if either of those transmissions is still available . . .

The only real performance difference between a hydraulic-clutch B16A trans and a USDM ITR trans is the LSD. Gearing is identical (although the gearing of the '99-00 S4C has been debated in the past).
