Sort of makes sense, since "Speedvision" will become SPEED channel... come some time in Feb.

OH LORD! I saw the commercials of the impending change over.. they use NASCAR pit crew with air impact wrenches to install and remove that sign..

 

I just saw that for the first time also, Chris. I couldn't decide whether to throw up or cry into my beer. So I played Gran Turismo until I felt better.

Also, FWIW, I don't like the new logo very much either. At a bare minimum they need a checkered flag in there somewhere.

They can gimme what ever logo they want as long as they keep sponsoring the WC Touring and GT. Now that they have all of this Fox sponsorship, Formula 1 better not be a problem. They better keep German DTM, ASTC, and while we're at it, why not JGTC?

 

Was this weekend some sort of last hurrah? nearly everytime I turned on the SpeedVISION.. there was something good on.. BTCC, Aus. V8 Supercars, DTC, etc.

Usually I get the bad luck of stumbling on to "Boat Test Review" or something.. or something by Ronco..

Watched a lot of Speedvision this weekend.. saw that sad, sad commercial many times..

Perhaps it's time to get Tivo so I can pull the gems out of the NASCAR crap slide that's coming.

And to take Off Topic even further Off Topic, I haven't been able to bear watching an episode of NASCAR Tech yet. Has anyone seen it? Is there anything worthwhile in it?

As for the continuation of SVWC,

 

I got to see some of the British Touring Car races, too (what else can you do when you're at home caring for a 13-month-old with a fever?). Jeez, those guyz are some of the most wreckless and aggressive drivers I've ever seen -- no 13/13 rule in effect there Kinda reminded of the opening demolition derby scene in the "Love Bug." Now how many of y'all remember that movie?

 

That is the exact reason there are only 3 (or 2??) manufacturers this year, all the others could not afford to keep the cars straight....

I think its the season for BTCC ans Aussie V8 Supercars....

 

and the name of the series has also been changed to refect the name change:

Speed Channel World Challenge, Speed Channel GT and Touring....

what happend to "SCCA" isn't that the primary sanctioning body for god sakes??? sad to see them bumped right off the logo and name when they are trying so hard to build a brand name and membership #'s. crazy....

There's actually some interesting stuff on there. Like seeing how they make the fenders and stuff (talk about mad metal work skills).

But they need new hosts. The old guy looks spaced out all the time, and the lady isn't hot. I don't know what they were thinking when the came up with those hosts. Maybe we're supposed to recognize them as being important figures in the NASCAR world or something.

And my last gripe is with the camera work. They always use the "our hosts can't actually read a teleprompter and look like they're looking at the camera so we're going to use the 'behind the scenes' shot" angle. It's dumb. Still beats Ship Shape all to hell, though. I don't care about your damn tuna tower.

The new commerical made me very sad and angry at the same time. Maybe we are jumping the gun, but I hate Nascar so bad and if Fox switches that channel over to some , my life would be incomplete.

 

NASCAR Tech is ok if your just waiting for the shows after it. You do get to see what all goes into a "Stock" car ...i.e. not any stock parts...LOL. First time I watched it they were talking about how easy it is to swap out the "qualifying" motor in the time allowed and install the "race" motor. Of course it's easy - they had two guys standing on either side of the engine INSIDE the engine bay working on it....try that at home kids!

I'm sad to see that "Speed Channel" commercial too (kinda weird that the audio volume set real low and muted on the commercial..hmmm...) But that TR7 commercial sure is nice Oh and the racing series I like best on SpeedVision right now....World Jetsprint Series - those boats are awesome! They would outperform any auto-X class car I bet if you had both an identical sized water and Solo II course...Now that's racing.

Regardless of the NASCAR look to the letters... whoever designed that logo needs to take a class in marketing design. That's not going to stand out on a car, and it looks totally mundane. You wouldn't look at it twice. The old logo actually draws your attention to it and makes you read everything on it.

 

Those jet boats are insane! I think those guys down under have an awesome sense of motorsport, did anyone see the v8 supercar race from bathurst? The Australians seem to take the most insanely horsepowered vehicles and race around the smallest course possible. I wish we had something like that here in the states, but instead we get a bunch of ignorant rednecks swirling their brains around in an oversized cereal bowl Regardless of the homo value of the new SVWC (or SCWC) logo, hopefully "speedchannel" will promote the series they sponsor better than speedvision's month late showings of the races last year. Don't get me wrong, I think world challenge is the most awesome form of racing (save ALMS) we have here in the states, I just wish it was promoted as well as nASScar to show the rest of the american public that motorsport is not all just running around in cirlces with "stock" autos that have absolutely NOTHING in common with their roadgoing counterparts and neither functional doors or headlights.
