I heard that before too, but thought that it was met by much resitance by the 2-stroke fans. Never thought it was made official.

If you have any info, post it up.

I'm about to get a 4-stroke anyway.

i found something on the ama site, but it was old info talking about the 06 ban. once you go to a 4 stroke you wont wana go back. esp riding a crf450. its so much easier to ride it istn funny. trust me im one of the last people that would say it, i loved my 250r, but im so much faster on my 450r. i carried both my quads to the track, tried racing the 250r and it wore me out and just was unpredictable since i hadnt ridden it ina while, i changed back to the 450r between motos and havenr really ridden it yet. but i will always keep one 250r, they are legendary.

its an old story, but its got information, was just a quick search.

First, if you have a two-stroke trail bike or ATV made before 2006, you can continue to ride it. There are no EPA restrictions on its use or maintenance. Only machines made in 2006 or later are required to meet the new standards.

Yeah its not like heavy Industry polutes the world with its production, no, no, no its two-stroke engines. Those bastards and the car drivers, its just so inconsiderate that they are allowd to own vehicles like this. When England gets a real Gov't some time this year I hope things will change a little.

As for pace, up to a point the 2 stroke is still king.

Such a shame.

Only reason 4strokes have been starting to compete in recent years IMO, is that
the big 4 are spending all their r&d in that area. 2-strokes have been neglected due
to pressure from the EPA hypocrites, who just needed someone to blame for a few
years.

Two strokes have their limits though, the more power they start making the harder they are to control due to the abrupt powerband. 4-strokes just have such a smooth powerband.

4 strokes are a lot more user friendly, but nothing like the sheer thrill of a 2 stroke powerband. Cr250 a beast? Try a cr500 haha.

The big 4 are still manufacturing and putting research into there 2 stokes. What are 80% of the pros riding in the ama supercross (250 class this is) this year?

Both Yamaha and Honda made big steps on making there 2-strokers better for this year, which really doesnt make alot of sense if they would be discontinuing them next year. The Yamahas 2 strokes got a new aluminum frame, and the 125 motor is supposidly insane.

I ride a 04 yz250 and I love it. Thumpers are good and all, but you have to be on top of your regular maintenance, or else your going to be out some serious coin if a top end goes. I like my bike because its cheap if it breaks, and I can do top ends by myself.

Until you have to strip them down. On top of that how much is it to keep the tune at the top of its game? Once you tune a two stroke it is tuned for life.

tuned for life? how ya figure? ive had to change jetting between practice, heat 1, heat 2 and before the main in the spring and fall when temp would be changing. anytime the weather changes you have to rejet a 2 stroke, a modded one anyway. i was leary when i picked up my 1st 4stroke last year, since ive always worked on 2 strokes but tearing into it wasnt bad. the main thing i dont like is the size of the motor and how i have to remove the fenders and tank to do anything. but pulling the head apart and changing cams on a crf (the trx is based off the crf) is easy. the valves use shims instead of a adjustable unit on the valves. after riding the 4 stroke on the track its so much easier, and faster in certain places. on a slick track the 4 stroke will pull of the corners because you can lug it easier then a 2 stroke, on the 2 stroke you will bake the tires off the corners.

er.....I said tune the engine, not set-up. Once you have the barrels tuned they stay tuned. Same for reed blocks, crankcases etc. They dont need the ball ache job of a top end freshen up, i.e recut all the valves, new springs etc, they just need pistons and rings, unless you are unlucky enough to seize, but thats not the point.

You have to be a better rider to extract the most from a 2 stroje, yes you can go quicker easier, but ultimately I enjoy the challenge, and the cheaper running costs. Guess its a bit different with a single compared to a four or v-twin but it is more work and out of the range, unless you own a Snap On franchise, of the average mechanic.

So let me ask this. When it comes to throwin down the cashola on either a new Cr250 or CRF450 which would you guys rock. Maintenance wise the two stroke is king supercross style tracks it rocks but the real big moto tracks and offroading????

I'm not saying they quit developement on them entirely, just that there has been a huge shift in R&D from 2stroke to 4stroke over the last half a decade.

2-strokes are definitely competetive, I would never dispute that. I ride one and love it. I'm just not a racer so I want something that is more comfortable to ride and not as hard on my body and that is a 4-stroke.

You ride street bikes and I ride dirtbikes so it's a little different. Say the track you rode on was full of pot holes and the bike was just shaking the **** out of you the whole time. That's how I feel.
