need help with installing AEM bypass valve on type R AEM CAI
You have to cut the pipe in half.
iirc you need to cut it closer towards the filter end, in the vertical section when it's installed, Not close to the TB. But I never went that route when I found out it lost the power it gained.
Maybe someone who cut theirs apart and installed the bypass can chime in and help this guy more.

Here's how I had mine back in the day. After about a year I just put the filter where the POS bypass valve was and had it as a short ram. Besides questioning the power loss, I was also questioning how much dirt etc was coming in thru the bypass foam. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with a short ram ...if I was going to use AEM

remember to cut it in a way which you can have a AEM short Ram intake too

I think the best thing to do would be to cut it where the pic above shows.
Then buy a rubber sleeve and some hose clamps and use that for regular driving. Keep the bypass valve in your car and if it starts to rain heavily pull over(where there's shelter preferably) loosen the clamp slide the rubber sleeve up the pipe and insert the bypass valve. Should take no more than 5 minutes and when the rain stops switch it back. That way you don't have to worry about rain or losing power.
Just my opinion.
