Mine kit was the same, so I hot glued the cd playler to the plastic kit piece so that it would stay fush, held up good for 3 years. But I don't like how the after market cd player loooked in there, so I put my factory one back in and bought a honda cd player, the one that goes right above the cup holder. Now it looks nice and clean and stock. But I still have my amp for the extra power.

What does that have to do with anything?
Each stereo is different. There are specific mounting holes on the sides of the case - those have to line up. That means, of course, that if you have a deck or face that is longer/fatter than others, it will stick out.
There isnt anything you can do about that, other than drill new holes for mounting it farther back. (Doing that will use the same mounting hardware as before)

Negative.
With these kits you mount the trim piece to the dash, and then you slide what they call the "DIN cage" into the trim piece. The DIN cage is held to the trim piece by small tabs just inside the lip that you push down and they hold tight against the trim piece. Scosche and Metra are probably a few of the small number of companies that make trim kits for aftermarket radios, and I believe they are both like this.
Your best bet is to a) make a trim kit yourself, black plexi is always nice.
or b) modify the one you have to push the DIN cage further out so the face sits flush, but even then you'll have an ugly *** gap between the trim ring for the radio and the dash trim piece. The DIN cage is what the actual CD player clips into, so either ghetto fab it so that the CD player isnt mounted properly, or modify the DIN cage mounting so it brings it out the 3/8 - 1/2" you need to make it flush.

Best Buy's trim/mounting kits have mounted flush for me on the stuff I've done, all though I haven't done one on a honda at all.
On a semi-related note, car audio/video stuff (esp. accesories) is like.. 95% mark-up...

First of all, this should be in AUDIO DISCUSSIONS forum... but i digress.
Do some research people. DASH KITS. There are a few companies that make them. Metra, Scosche to name two of the better ones. Nothing has to be drilled or screwed. Or, like a few people said, make your own.

I had mine installed at "TWEETERS." Aside from a little scratch, they did a very good job flush mounting and adding a trim to fill in the gap around the radio.
